IMRAN

After talking briefly with Shanaya, I left because mom was gesturing to me to come there, and I knew exactly why. I thought to myself, "I don't want to meet her."

I couldn't help but sneak a glance at Shanaya before I went our separate ways.

The unintended sting of my words still lingered, a painful reminder of my thoughtless taunt.

Curiosity had gotten the better of me, and now I was consumed by regret and self-reproach.

The hurt I saw in her eyes was a searing accusation of my carelessness, and I couldn't bear the thought of being the cause of her distress.

My heart is heavy with regret, Why had my words been so reckless, so hurtful? I scolded myself, grappling with the turmoil that churned within.

Taking a deep breath, I composed myself and joined my mother, trying to hide the turmoil brewing inside me.

"Yes, mom, you called?" I asked, standing beside her.

"Imran, come let me introduce you to someone, and don't embarrass me in front of them," mom warned, her eyes stern.

"I'm telling you, if you do anything foolish, then the consequences will be bad. They're waiting for you to arrive. Why were you late?" she asked, slightly scolding me.

I rolled my eyes, exasperated. So this was her plan to convince me to attend this wedding?

"Mom, come on, seriously! I've already made it clear I don't want to get married this early." But when she listens to me.

I chose not to respond to her previous question and followed her to meet her friend. As we approached, I greeted her with a polite

"Hello, aunty."

"Hello, beta. How are you?" she replied.

"I'm good, aunty. How's your health?" I asked, showing respect.

"I'm doing well. And how's your business going?" she inquired.

"It's fine, aunty," I replied.

"I can't believe how much you've grown!" she exclaimed. "You were such a cute kid, and now you're a handsome young man!"

I chuckled lightly, returning her smile. "Thank you for the compliment, Aunty," I replied.

Then, she introduced her daughter, "Here, meet my daughter, Hayat." And went leaving us two alone.
