The idea of something being wrong made him want to hold you. It was even affecting his plays. He was just going to make sure you were okay. That was all he was going to do. He wouldn't come back to talk to you or anything. He didn't want to talk to you. You were a distraction.

A distraction he really couldn't afford. But still, he opened his phone. He still clicked on your name out of everyone else. He still ignored the notifications, just to click on yours. Your name, your very existence, made him feel things he would kill himself for ever feeling.

Because he wasn't good enough to be loved by you yet. He couldn't even get his own brother to love him. But it's like you didn't even care about it. You just ignored it. The same way you'd ignore everyone else if they weren't him. But it was him. It was him who you wanted. He just couldn't see why.

He felt so mesmerised watching her just sitting in a cafe. Waiting patiently for him on her phone. Scribbling away words in your notebook. He didn't really care for what you were doing; he just cared for how you were doing. He didn't want to not be able to freely see that sight. He didn't want to lose the feeling you felt for him to another.

So maybe it was okay. "Hey." You looked up at him. Your face instantly emanating joy. Pure joy from just being with him. You jumped up, your hands wrapped around him. So close. He could feel his heart pounding. "How are you?" Why did he suddenly not know how to talk to you?

"I'm good now that I've seen your pretty face". Your palm on his cheek. "Come, sit." He takes a seat next to you. He doesn't see the point in sitting opposite. He knows he doesn't really talk much, and he wants to be as near to you as possible. "Can we get the spongecake?" He nods. "Yeah, we can." You smile. You're happy. You haven't had cake in so long.

The cake arrives, and you stare at it for a while. You take a bite, and you're sent into blissful satisfaction. "Have some." Before he can open his mouth to refuse or accept before you fed him a piece of cake. "Oh -" he stopped. "This isn't as lukewarm as I thought." You just laughed. You were so happy today. You didn't know why.

But his very presence made you happier. "Oh, I'm glad! I love this café. It's really the best." You just put him in a trance. "Rin, I think I like you, love you." You didn't know if it was a stupid idea. But regret instantly filled you as he tensed up.

Your heart aching in such a way that you could not fathom it. "It's fine if you don't feel the same." But he did. The problem was that he did. "I do. I really want to, but I can't. I have to focus on football. So that Sae can acknowledge me. His approval has been the most important all my life." You sighed. "That's okay, really. That wasn't my question. Do you love me, Rin?"

He didn't reply. His heart uncomfortable in a way that was so beautiful. You were so beautiful to him. "Yeah, I do." You smiled in relief. "Then that's all that's important. You can be strong, still. I'll even help you with football. I'm quite skilled, you know. I don't like it so much, but if it helps you, I'd do it."

Almost a smile. Rin didn't smile physically, but you could just tell from his eyes that he was joyful. "So, can I be your boyfriend?" He asked if he could be your boyfriend. He just. Gods, you were so down bad for him.
