Vincent made this place feel like home within the few days that he has been here. He usually wakes up before I do and makes breakfast and sets everything up. Sometimes I wake up before him and do the same depending how tired we were from the night before.
We spent our afternoons out in the city and doing things we normally didn't do back in Cherryville. In New York, I was almost always focused on school and didn't do a whole lot of traveling or doing things on my own. I was always out and about with River, or Maxine and the girls.
It felt nice for it to be just us for a bit. I missed the familiarity of Vincent's presence and how we would do things together back home before things fell apart.
Today was my first official day at my new internship and Vincent prepared my bag with everything I would need like snacks, notebooks, pens, and even filled up my water bottle.
"Are you ready for today?" He asks, his blue eyes glancing at me with a soft look.
I nod. "I feel ready now. I don't know how I would've done it without you," I confess.
Vincent smiles at me and looks at the clock in the kitchen. "We should go now if we want to beat traffic," he says.
My internship starts at 8:30 and it isn't too far from the apartment. I did want to get there early enough to get myself situated and have some spare time and not feel like I'm running late.
We get to the tall building with the publishing company's name right at the entrance. Vincent stops at the area where most drivers are dropping off clients and I take a second to catch my breath.
"Nervous?" He asks, looking over me with a small smile.
I nod. "A little," I say, "but I think I'll be okay."
"You'll do great. Remember it's just the first day, they'll just teach you the ropes and introduce you to stuff that you'll be using on a daily basis. You're not going to be doing the CEO's job," he says with a chuckle.
My shoulders relax instantly. He's right. There's nothing to worry about. Every new job's first day is always the basic stuff. "Thank you, Vincent."
"So I'll pick you up at 2:30?" He asks for confirmation.
I nod. "Yes. I'll text you if they do need me to stay longer."
"Cool. I'll see you later then."

"This is your cubicle. You'll most likely be reading a lot of emails for the first part of your internship and also helping with jotting down meeting times, making copies of manuscripts, and attending these meetings so you understand how the publishing industry works," Vivian, my boss, explains everything as we pass through the office and finally get to my cubicle.
