When I got out of the room, both boys were still talking about the situation surrounding Dimitri.
"I'm going to run to the restaurant down the street," Vincent says, putting on a random shirt that was laying on the couch. "Your usual order?"
I nodded, giving him a small smile as he remembered what I liked. He asks Sage for his order and then he's off, leaving Sage and I alone.
"When you go back, can you not mention anything to River?" I say, breaking the small silence.
Sage looks at me with an arched eyebrow. "Charlotte, do you really think I would go off and tell people your business. I knew from the moment that when both of you would see each other, you would realize that you still love Vincent more than River."
Was it obvious to everyone and not me? "Are you mad at me like Darcy is?" I ask.
He furrows his brows. "Those are your choices. That has nothing to do with Darcy and her opinion. Isn't she in the middle of fighting Daniel too?" He scoffs. "Looks we've all done something that we're not super proud of and underneath the guilt, we know that what we did was probably something we wanted all along."
"I didn't want to hurt anyone in the process."
"I'm usually the one to tell people to be honest, but it seems like perhaps telling River you cheated would make things worse. River isn't the violent type but he will try to go after Vincent and pin this on him like it was his plan all along. You know exactly how Vincent would respond," Sage says.
"Yeah, with his fists."
Sage nods. "It's well known that both of you belong together. Everyone has talked about it. Everyone can see that Vincent only has a soft spot for you. No one really knows why he would go for a girl like Cassidy. She's not even his type at all." He snorts.
"He said he never did anything with her," I say with a shrug.
"He didn't. I think he also made her tag along to sort of get you jealous, but in the end he was the jealous one."
"Jealous of River?"
"Jealous that Vincent wasn't the one to be making you happy. He said it annoyed him to hear you laugh at whatever River would say. He also hated that River was the opposite of what he was," Sage says, leaning back onto the couch.
He looked amused as he said these things to me. He knew how much Vincent was suffering on the inside as he watched River and I do all of the things that Vincent and I used to do.
"How badly was he hurting?" I ask.
"Oh badly. There were times where he would just sit there in silence and then just rant whenever he could," Sage says.
"It does feel right to be with him, but sometimes I wish we could've just fixed things before I left for New York. That would've changed things drastically," I say.
