Chapter Fourteen: Confrontation and Revelation

Aria’s day had been tense, filled with the anxiety of trying to maintain normalcy while avoiding suspicion. But as evening fell, she looked forward to unwinding with Wade. Her escape from reality, even for a few hours, was a welcome reprieve from the mounting pressure she faced.

She made her way to their usual meeting spot, a secluded area where Wade was known to hang out. When she arrived, she found him perched on a graffiti-covered rooftop, enjoying the city view. His usual mask was absent, revealing his familiar smirk.

“Hey, Wade,” Aria called out, walking up to him.

Wade grinned, standing up with a playful flourish. “Ah, my favorite troublemaker. How’s life in the land of the grounded and suspicious?”

Aria took a seat beside him, letting out a long breath. “You wouldn’t believe the day I’ve had. The Avengers are on high alert, and Clint is even suspicious of me. They’re watching my every move.”

Wade’s expression turned serious for a moment, though his eyes twinkled with mischief. “Well, that’s not good. I guess your dad and the rest of the crew are getting a bit too nosy. What’s the plan?”

Aria shook her head. “I don’t know yet. I just want some time away from all this. It’s been so stressful lately.”

Wade reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from her face. “You know, stress and tension aren’t good for anyone. Maybe you need to let off some steam.”

Aria looked into his eyes, feeling a mix of relief and connection. She leaned closer, drawn to the comfort of his presence. Without thinking, she closed the distance between them and kissed him. It was a spontaneous, passionate moment that felt like a brief escape from the chaos of her life.

Wade’s hands found their way to her face, deepening the kiss. After a few intense seconds, they pulled back, their foreheads resting against each other.

Aria’s breath was shaky as she looked up at him. “I really needed that.”

Wade nodded, his expression softening. “Anytime, Aria. But you’ve got to be careful. This isn’t just about us; it’s about making sure you stay safe.”

After spending some more time together, Aria reluctantly said goodbye and headed home, her thoughts a whirlwind of emotions. She was so lost in her own headspace that she didn’t notice the tense atmosphere that awaited her.

As she entered the compound, she was met with a group of stern faces—Steve, Natasha, Tony, and Clint were all waiting for her in the common area. The tension was palpable.

“Aria, where have you been?” Steve’s voice was low, but firm.

Aria’s heart skipped a beat. “I was just out. I needed a break.”

Steve’s eyes narrowed. “We’ve been trying to reach you. We know about the messages between you and Deadpool.”

Aria’s blood ran cold. “What? How do you—”

Steve cut her off. “I read through your messages with Natasha’s permission. We know you’ve been seeing him.”

Aria’s mind raced, trying to find a way to protect her secret. “I—I’m not seeing him. We’re just talking. It’s nothing serious.”

Steve’s expression hardened. “We’ve tried to be patient, but your behavior has been suspicious. You’ve been avoiding the truth.”

Aria’s voice grew defensive. “I’m not hiding anything. You don’t understand what it’s like for me.”

“Maybe not,” Steve said, “but we need to be sure. For your safety. Natasha, Tony, Clint—could you give us a moment?”

The others left reluctantly, casting Aria concerned glances as they exited. Steve took a deep breath, his eyes locked onto hers. “Aria, we’re worried about you. We can’t have you putting yourself in danger. We need the truth.”

Aria’s heart pounded. She knew she had to protect Wade, no matter the cost. “I’m not telling you anything. You don’t get to control every part of my life.”

Steve’s face darkened. “Alright, if you won’t be honest, then we have no choice. You’re going to have to stay in the interrogation room until we can sort this out. It’s for your own protection.”

Before she could protest further, Steve led her to the interrogation room and locked the door behind her. The room was stark and cold, a harsh contrast to the warmth she had just felt with Wade.

As she sat alone in the dimly lit room, Aria felt a mix of fear and frustration. She had hoped to find some respite and understanding, but instead, she was trapped in a situation that only heightened her anxiety. She needed to find a way out, not just from the room, but from the growing web of deception and control that threatened to consume her.
