Chapter Seventeen: The Reveal

The day had arrived, a day that Aria and Wade had been both dreading and anticipating. Their relationship, which had started as a deep friendship, had blossomed into something more. They had navigated the complexities of their feelings, the dynamics of their roles in the Avengers, and the challenges of their personal lives. Now, the time had come to share their relationship with Steve.

Aria paced nervously in her room, glancing occasionally at Wade, who leaned casually against the doorframe, trying to mask his own apprehension with a nonchalant grin.

“Are you sure about this?” Aria asked, her voice tinged with anxiety.

Wade nodded, his usual playful demeanor replaced with a rare note of seriousness. “Yeah, I’m sure. It’s time. We can’t keep hiding forever.”

Aria took a deep breath. “Alright. Let’s do this.”

They made their way to the common area where Steve, Natasha, and Tony were gathered for a meeting. Aria and Wade entered, and the room quieted as they approached.

Steve looked up, his expression a mix of curiosity and concern. “What’s going on?”

Aria cleared her throat, her heart pounding. “Steve, there’s something important we need to tell you.”

Steve’s gaze shifted to Wade, who stood beside Aria, his usual mask now showing his full face. “I’m listening.”

Aria took another deep breath. “Wade and I… we’re together. We’ve been dating for a while now.”

Steve’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. Natasha and Tony exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of shock and curiosity.

Steve’s voice was measured, though his eyes betrayed a hint of confusion. “Dating? Since when?”

Wade stepped forward, his tone respectful but firm. “Since a few months ago. We didn’t want to rush into anything or make it public before we were sure about our feelings.”

Steve looked from Aria to Wade, processing the news. “I appreciate your honesty, but this complicates things. Aria, I thought we had an understanding about your safety and your relationships.”

Aria’s expression softened. “Dad, I understand. But Wade has been an important part of my life, and we’ve been very careful about keeping things balanced. He’s been a good influence and a supportive partner.”

Wade nodded. “I get that this is a lot to take in. But I promise you, Steve, I care about Aria deeply. I’d never do anything to put her in danger or undermine her role with the Avengers.”

Steve’s gaze remained stern, though there was a hint of grudging respect in his eyes. “Alright. I’ll take your word for it, but I need to know that you’re both aware of the responsibilities that come with this.”

Natasha stepped in, her tone calm but firm. “Steve, they’re being honest with us now. I think it’s important we give them a chance to prove themselves.”

Tony added, “Yeah, and we’ve seen Wade’s commitment to helping out with the Avengers. It’s not like he’s been a liability.”

Steve nodded slowly, though he still looked contemplative. “Fine. We’ll keep a close watch and make sure there are no issues. But I need to be clear—if anything goes wrong, it’s on both of you.”

Aria and Wade nodded in agreement. “Understood,” Aria said. “We’re committed to making this work and being transparent with you.”

Steve sighed, his expression softening slightly. “Alright. I appreciate you coming to me with this. Let’s just make sure we all stay focused on our missions and responsibilities.”

As the meeting continued, the atmosphere in the room was a mix of relief and lingering tension. Aria and Wade had taken a significant step in their relationship, and while Steve’s acceptance was not without conditions, it was a start.

Later that evening, Aria and Wade found a moment alone to reflect on the day’s events.

“That went better than I expected,” Wade said, a hint of relief in his voice.

Aria smiled, though there was a tiredness in her eyes. “Yeah, it did. At least now we don’t have to hide anymore.”

Wade took her hand, his expression softening. “I’m just glad we’re on the same page now. We’ve got a lot ahead of us, but as long as we face it together, I think we’ll be okay.”

Aria squeezed his hand, her heart full of hope. “Me too. Together, we can handle whatever comes our way.”

As they walked away, their shared smiles and understanding marked a new chapter in their relationship. With Steve’s cautious acceptance and their commitment to one another, Aria and Wade faced the future with a renewed sense of partnership and determination.
