After much thinking, Maria finally agreed to visit Amir's parents. She had been hesitant, but the warmth of their invitations made it hard to refuse. Still, she made it clear to herself that she wouldn't be staying the night. It wasn't her style, and she didn't want Amir to get the wrong idea.
When she arrived, Amir's parents greeted her with open arms, their faces lighting up with genuine joy. His sisters and brother were just as welcoming, their enthusiasm making her feel instantly at home. But there was one noticeable absence—Amir wasn't there. Maria noticed but chose not to ask why, not wanting to seem too curious or concerned.
Dinner was a familiar yet delightful experience. The table was filled with dishes that were both comforting and flavorful. As she took her first bite, Maria was reminded of just how much she enjoyed the food Amir's family prepared. The flavors were rich, and each dish seemed to have been made with care and tradition.
Despite the warmth and hospitality, Maria couldn't shake the feeling of Amir's absence. It was strange to be in his home, surrounded by his family, without him there. But she kept her thoughts to herself, enjoying the evening as best she could. As much as she liked being there, she knew she would leave once dinner was over. Staying the night just wasn't an option for her.

After a while, as the evening drew on, Maria began to feel it was time to go home. She glanced out the window, only to see that the rain was pouring down in sheets, drenching everything in sight. She stood up, politely excusing herself, and mentioned that she should be heading back.
But Amir's parents wouldn't hear of it. "It's pouring outside, Maria," his mother said, her voice full of concern. "You can't drive home in this weather. It's not safe."
Maria hesitated, torn between her desire to leave and the genuine care she felt from Amir's family. She didn't want to impose, but the thought of driving in such heavy rain was daunting.
As she was about to protest, the front door suddenly swung open. Everyone turned toward the entrance, and there stood Amir, soaking wet, water dripping from his hair and clothes. He greeted his parents with a warm "As-salamu alaykum," his voice cutting through the sound of the rain.
Then he turned toward Maria, and despite his drenched appearance, he smiled. It was a simple, sincere smile that seemed to make the room a little warmer. Maria felt a flutter in her chest, the sight of him bringing a mix of emotions she wasn't entirely prepared for.
His mother quickly ushered him inside, fussing over his wet clothes, but Amir's eyes stayed on Maria for a moment longer before he turned to his parents. She felt a blush creeping up her cheeks, and she couldn't help but return his smile, even as her mind raced with thoughts.
She knew she was staying the night now. The rain, Amir's unexpected arrival—it all seemed to conspire to keep her there, despite her earlier resolve.
