"Kyoshi Island is only a few hours from here." Aang said, holding up an unusual notebook. "According to this, Avatar Kyoshi is the fiercest of warriors and a master of what they call the Avatar State. Maybe something in her shrine will help me control my power before-"

"You kill someone?" Sokka cut in bluntly, earning a sharp elbow in the shoulder from Awena.

Aang's gaze dropped, and he continued more softly, "Before it happens again." He turned and started walking away, shoulders slumped.

Awena, determined not to let him carry this weight alone, quickly caught up to him. "Hey." She said, her voice gentle. "Don't listen to Sokka, alright? He doesn't know what he's talking about."

Aang sighed, stowing the notebook. "But what if he's right? What if I hurt someone?"

Awena squeezed his shoulder, her eyes serious but warm. "You won't. I know you, Aang. You're one of the kindest people I've ever met. You're strong, funny, and you have the best heart. You'd never hurt anyone."

Aang's tense expression softened into a small smile. "Thank you, Awena. You always know what to say."

Awena's gaze caught on the notebook. "So, uh, where did you get that?"

Aang looked a little sheepish. "Well, I, uh, kind of stole it from Zuko."

Zuko. Awena almost forgot about him, the firebending prince chasing them with a mix of desperation and pain in his eyes. She felt a strange pang of sympathy, though she pushed it down, unsure how to make sense of it. But before she could scold Aang for stealing, Katara's bag next to her started to squirm.

"Uh, what's that?" Awena asked, nudging Aang, who turned just as Katara came over.

"Katara, something's wrong with your bag." Aang said, his eyes widening as the bag suddenly darted off. The group scrambled to catch it, but Awena got there first and tipped it over, spilling out a small, wide-eyed creature holding one of Sokka's bread rolls in its tiny paws.

"Hey! That's our food!" Sokka yelped, as the creature shot up to a nearby orange tree, munching happily.

Katara tilted her head, staring up at it. "What is that?"
