-Kat-

I pull up to the restaurant, looking up at the entrance. I've always had a strange relationship with this place. I came here every Friday night with my dad. It was our thing. Every Friday was the same. School, work, eating here with my dad, a random activity, late night milkshakes, then back home. Until he met his now wife and introduced me at this diner where I also met her son a year later. And then, they had a baby together. Now the routine is: go to my step brothers games, diner and milkshakes, then home. It was always fun and I had a great time, it just sucked that it was no longer just an us thing, or even sometimes. They are always with us.

As I look around for my dads car, I see them standing at the entrance. I grab my bag and open the car door, closing it behind me. My dad stood against a beam, looking at his phone. He never was good at putting his phone down, even with us. It's always something with work. He was still dressed in his suit, like always. His wife, Sarah, sat on the bench next to the entrance door, coddling Matthew, my one year old half brother. Adam, my step brother, sat on the other side of Sarah. Matthew and Adam have become my favorite part about Friday's. As I reached them, Sarah looked up. Her face wrinkled as she beamed up at me.

"Kat!" She exclaimed, standing up with a stretched arm. I smiled as I embraced her, keeping from squishing Matt. "How are you?"

"As good as I can be." I reply, turning to Matthew. "Hii, Matty." I sing as I tickle his stomach. He giggles as I pull my hand away.

"I'm starting to think you're getting shorter." Adam says from behind Sarah. I put my hand over my heart for dramatic effect. Scoffing, I retort "Excuse me, but I'm actually wearing shoes that make me an inch taller so I'm taller. Thank you." He snorts, throwing his head back in forced laughter.

"The fact that you take note of how much taller your shoes make you, proves my point." I roll my eyes walking over to my dad.

"Put your phone down, it's Friday night." I say as I push his phone further from his face.

"It's just work." He says. I roll my eyes again.

"It's always just work." I mutter as I turn back to Sarah and Adam.

"Let's go in." My dad says, walking past us, opening the diner door. Adam walks in first, Sarah shoos me in next before walking in behind me, my dad following. The diner was an 80s theme diner. You were greeted with a bar as soon as you walked in on the opposite wall with a pink 'Welcome' sign above it. Soda, milkshake and fridge underneath the sign behind the bar. Neon pink bar stools surrounding. The booth seats were also neon pink. The walls were neon blue with old 80s records and posters covering almost every inch, you could only see the neon blue in some places. We always sat in the same booth, the second booth to the right of the entrance door under a 'Ghostbusters' movie poster. We originally sat here because it was both my dad and I's favorite movie, it just stuck.

We all ordered the usual, for me? Chicken tenders, fries and a vanilla milkshake. My favorite. The dinner goes by fast, spending the time catching up and talking about drama, with the occasional banter between me and Adam. It still felt weird coming here with my dad's new family, but it also felt normal, right.

"Oh, angel, we do have to talk to you about something." My dad speaks up, I swallow the food that was in my mouth before I replied.

"What is it?" I asked as I took another bite of my fries.

"I got transferred for work, Texas to be exact." My dad started, pausing to look at Sarah who just nodded, signaling for him to keep talking. He cleared his throat before turning to me again. "We're moving next month and we want you to move in with us."
