Chapter 3: Go Dodgers, I guess.

The shifts were relentless, filled with a significant number of fire incidents, a perilous rescue of a man trapped between two buildings, and an unsettling situation involving an elderly woman who was mistakenly thought to be stuck in her bathroom due to her dementia. The already bustling Los Angeles Fire Department was further inundated when a massive earthquake struck, leaving behind devastating consequences that kept everyone in the department occupied – directly or indirectly. Buck was privy to the harrowing details of the 911 calls from that fateful day, as it happened to be Maddie's first day on the job. Hell of a first day.

Some days have passed, Buck was now staring at a woman's ass, not in a sexual way, her head was stuck in a tailpipe and frankly there was nothing else that he could look at. They received an urgent call from a bachelorette party, notifying them that their friend was in a difficult situation. This wasn't the kind of "difficult situation" anyone had anticipated. Bobby took charge and directed the team as he always did. Buck wasn't usually one to take orders, but the way Bobby led didn't seem to bother him. Perhaps it was because Bobby's tone wasn't condescending or bossy. After a joint effort, they successfully freed the young lady. Buck kindly advised her to reconsider her choice of friends, noting that true friends wouldn't subject her to such embarrassing situations.

As Buck and Eddie made their way out of the venue, they strolled side by side, taking in their surroundings. Suddenly, they were brought to an abrupt stop, well, Eddie was. A woman held her phone up in front of Eddie's face, presumably asking for his number. Buck couldn't help but hope that she wasn't the bride.

"I have a son, I am not what you are looking for" Eddie gently nudged her phone aside and strode ahead of Buck.

Buck struggled to decipher the look on Eddie's face. He pondered whether Eddie truly thought his son was responsible for his lackluster dating life, or if this was just a convenient excuse to brush someone off. Buck was certain that Eddie was a force to be reckoned with in the dating world due to his undeniable attractiveness. His eyes were reminiscent of the rich hue of whisky, a deep and entrancing golden brown that seemed to hold an irresistible allure for any woman who gazed into them. Moreover, his striking facial features, while individually impressive, combined to create a captivating and mesmerizing effect that made it near impossible for anyone to look away.

"Is your son really the reason you don't date?" Buck asked although he was pretty sure of the answer. He could see the smirk creep up on Eddie's lips. "Nah, they aren't really my type"

"There weren't mine either" Buck wasn't sure what Eddie meant by that, but he damn sure wasn't sure what he himself meant by it.

"Finally" Buck jumped off of the rig swiftly. "Don't act like you wouldn't rather be out there right now" Hen made a remark that he couldn't deny. He just shrugged.

Slowly, he meandered his way towards the locker room, savoring each step as if it were his last. As he prepared to leave for the day, the anticipation of a blissful three-day hiatus enveloped him with a sense of relief. Despite not being fond of time off, he eagerly anticipated the opportunity to hone his culinary skills during the break.

During the first day of the three-day break, he indulged in a long slumber, tried his hand at cooking Bobby's renowned lasagna but unfortunately failed, went for a refreshing jog, initiated reading "Fight Club," yet couldn't get past three pages due to boredom. Despite enjoying the movie, he found the book to be a challenge due to his fleeting attention span.

On the second day, things didn't improve much. Surprisingly, he managed to make it to page four of "Fight Club''. He stopped by Maddie's workplace, browsed through apartments online, checked out Abbie's social media profiles, went for a run, did some grocery shopping, attempted to make lasagna for the second time, shaved his beard, and went for yet another jog. Despite keeping busy, he couldn't shake the feeling of going out of his mind. In the midst of his frantic cleaning, he was interrupted by the sound of his phone vibrating. He hastily put down the mop and hurried over to where his phone lay. A look of perplexity crossed his face as he checked the notification. It was multiple messages from Eddie,
