Kael lay on his bed, his back throbbing with pain from the punishment he had endured. The lashes had left deep, raw wounds across his skin, a physical reminder of his failure and the price he had paid for his disobedience. Every movement sent a jolt of pain through his body, but it was nothing compared to the turmoil raging in his mind.

He had let Elara go, and the consequences had been severe. Yet, even as he lay there, trying to find some semblance of comfort, he couldn't shake the memory of her eyes—the fear, the desperation, and the glimmer of something more, something that had struck a chord deep within him.

But there was no time to dwell on that now. His superior, Sir Aldric, had summoned him to a meeting. The Magi Order was relentless, and despite his injuries, Kael knew that his duty was not yet done. They were planning something new—something that could turn the tide of their struggle against the rebellion.

With great effort, Kael pushed himself off the bed, biting back a groan as the pain flared up. He slowly dressed, his movements stiff and deliberate. The simple act of pulling on his shirt felt like a monumental task, each movement sending fresh waves of agony through his back. But he had no choice. The Order demanded obedience, and he had already seen what happened when he faltered.

As he made his way through the corridors of the fortress, Kael's mind churned with thoughts of the upcoming meeting. Aldric was a ruthless man, a commander who valued results above all else. If he was calling a meeting now, it meant he had devised a new plan—a plan to crush the rebellion once and for all.

Kael entered the meeting chamber, where Aldric and several other high-ranking officers of the Magi Order were already gathered. The atmosphere was tense, the air thick with anticipation. Aldric stood at the head of the table, his expression as cold and unreadable as ever.

"Kael," Aldric greeted him curtly, his eyes briefly flicking to the bandages peeking out from under Kael's collar before he continued, "I trust you are well enough to participate in this discussion."

Kael nodded, keeping his expression neutral. "Yes, Sir. I am ready."

Aldric's gaze lingered on him for a moment longer, as if assessing his readiness, before he turned his attention to the rest of the room. "We have received new intelligence," he began, his voice carrying the weight of authority. "The rebels are growing bolder, and it is clear that they are gathering their forces for a larger assault. We cannot allow them to gain any more ground. Our priority now is to locate their hideout and eliminate the threat once and for all."

Kael listened intently, his mind sharpening despite the pain that still plagued him. The Order had been searching for the rebel base for months, but the rebels were elusive, always staying one step ahead. If Aldric had new information, it could be the key to finally crushing them.

"We have reason to believe that the rebels are being aided by sympathetic villagers in the outskirts," Aldric continued. "These villagers have been providing them with food, shelter, and information. It is through these connections that we will find their hideout."

One of the officers, a man named Varis, leaned forward, a skeptical look on his face. "With all due respect, Sir Aldric, we've tried interrogating villagers before. They are loyal to the rebels, and most are willing to die before giving up any information."

Aldric's eyes hardened. "Then we will make an example of them. We will strike fear into their hearts, make them understand the consequences of aiding the rebels. When they see what happens to those who defy the Magi Order, they will think twice before offering their assistance."

Kael felt a knot tighten in his stomach at Aldric's words. The Order's methods were brutal, and he had seen firsthand the devastation they left in their wake. But he also knew that questioning Aldric's strategy was not an option. The Order demanded results, and Aldric was willing to do whatever it took to achieve them.
