Toby sulked in the back of the twinkie, her legs pulled up to her chest as she rested her chin on her knees. In her hands, she cradled the joint she rolled before those monsters had shown up and stolen the rest of her weed.
Barry was going to kill her.
The thought brought a groan to her lips. Out of all the dealers on the island, Barry had the best stuff, and she'd managed to fuck everything up in a single day. If she was lucky, she had a week — two at the most — before the dealer came looking for the money she definitely couldn't get her hands on.
Beside her, JJ gave her shoulder a sympathetic pat, though the amused grin on his face suggested he wasn't exactly feeling too sorry for her. Toby just burrowed herself further into her knees, grasping her last joint like a lifeline.
"I don't think I've ever seen you look this bummed out before." Pope said from across the van, his gaze locked on her like she was some rare species he was observing.
Toby slowly lifted her head, fixing the boy with a glare sharp enough to cut. "Get fucked, Pope."
Pope raised his brows, pursing his lips as he looked away with wide eyes, choosing to focus on something that wasn't looking at him with murderous intent — John B's compass. JJ snickered beside her, unable to resist laughing at the interaction.
John B's voice cut through JJ's laughs from the drivers seat. "I mean it's obvious, right? A family heirloom. What better place to hide a message? He had to know it was going to get back to me, right?"
"Yeah, it's possible." Kiara agreed from beside him. Toby rolled her eyes at the wide eyed, emphatic look she was giving him. All she was doing was fuelling the false hope brewing in John B's mind.
"It could also be possible," Pope added, cautious but firm, "that you're concocting wild theories to help, you know." He trailed off, clearly uncomfortable with finishing his thought.
Toby however, had no problem in doing so.
"Deal with your sad feels." She mumbled into her knees without missing a beat.
"Bro, you know how I deal with my sad feels." JJ jumped in, an innocent shrug lifting his shoulders. "Dank nugs and the stickies of ickies, that's how I do it."
His words had Toby head shooting up, her expression twisted with disbelief. "JJ, did you seriously just say 'stickiest of ickies'? That's fucking disgusting."
"I'm not concocting, okay?" John B drowned out her disgusted commentary, his conviction cutting through the conversation. "My dad's trying to give me a message." He insisted, as much to the group as to himself.
