The digital clock on her nightstand blinked 2:37 AM in the dark, unchanging as the rest of the world slept. She stared at the pack on her bed, picking it up in her hands. No cigarettes. She sighed, pulling herself up, wrapping herself into a jacket. The cold air she felt was a sharp contrast to the warmth of her apartment, but it wasn't enough to make her turn back. She needed that fix.

The city was quiet, eerie almost, as she stepped out onto the deserted street. The only sound was the soft hum of streetlights and the distant rumble of a lone car passing by. The gas station was only a few blocks away, a beacon of fluorescent light in the otherwise pitch-black night. Her footsteps echoed in the stillness, the rhythmic crunch of gravel underfoot somehow comforting.

She wondered if anyone else was awake at this hour. Probably not, she thought, pushing her hands deeper into her pockets. The night had a way of making even this feel like something more, something almost dangerous. She liked that.

But in a place like this, who knows what'll happen? She kept on guard for the rest of the walk.

She entered the gas station, softly smiling at the cashier with tired eyes. Before she walked upto the counter to ask the cashier for a pack, she thought of looking through the racks incase she remembers something she needs.

Looking through all the shelves, she noticed a guy coming in the store. He had messy, brown-ish hair and quite tall. He was wearing a black cloth face mask.
"Probably sick." She muttered to herself.

After finding nothing she needed, she walked right up to the cashier, asking for a pack of cigarettes. She also looked around to see if that guy was still in the store.
He was not.
"Thank you, have a good night." She smiled at the cashier before walking back to her home.

She contemplated if she wanted to go inside, looking at her door from the outside, to which she decided she'll stay out just for a little while.
She put her earbuds on and picked out her favourite song from her playlist. The foggy winter night adding on to the overall mood. She adored winter. She walked for a while until she reached the park. It looked way different than at morning. She sat on one of the benches, letting her mind wander off. What she didn't know was that someone, hidden near the trees, was watching her.
