Varian And The Moonstone (Book 1)

Chapter 10

After Varian had successfully knocked out the guards, he retrieved his big coat from earlier and changed his outfit. He had also found an ink pen nearby and drew a fake goatee onto his chin to look more mature. He used his rocks to smash into the castles throne room where he was greeted by Rapunzel (who had already returned to Corona herself with the gang) and her parents. Rapunzel let out a shocked gasp as she saw him standing there glaring at her angrily. Rapunzel stepped forward then spoke “Varian… I thought we'd never see you again!” Varian stayed silent and stepped forward making more black rocks grow and pierce the grounds. He had also used the rocks to block off all entrances so no guards could get in and he also trapped the king and Queen into a black rock cage so they couldn't do anything to stop him. Varian then spoke, quietly, but clear “Rapunzel… You broke your promise… “ He then made more rocks grow “So now I'm going to break you…” Rapunzel stepped back and untied her hair then spoke “I don't think so Varian…” she went to use her hair to try and lasso and tie up Varian, but he used the rocks to shield himself from her attack. “I wouldn't try that if I were you…” he said

Varian smirked before grabbing one of his pink raccoon trap bombs that he had supplied up on while in Old Corona and threw it towards Rapunzel so her hair would stick to the ground. He approached her when she spoke “Varian… I know how to save your father… Please just trust me…” Varian looked at Rapunzel angrily again before speaking again “Sorry princess… But why should I believe you?” He said turning away. Rapunzel spoke again “Varian… I need you to break out of the moonstones control…. Maybe THEN you'll listen to me.” Varian turned back around, unfazed. He laughed before walking right up to Rapunzel and speaking directly into her face “As long as the moon shines… I’m in control.”

Varian was about to turn away when Rapunzel grabbed him by his shoulders and stared directly at him “The wither incantation can break your father out. Please just trust me. We have to do it together for it to work. Please Varian. Trust me.” Varian stood there and stared at Rapunzel for a few moments when he suddenly began to clutch onto his head and fall to his knees. He began to break out of the moonstones control “What are you doing?” the moonstones control said through him “I'm done with this control. LET ME OUT!” he yelled as the teal glow from his eyes began to flash in and out. “WHO IS IN CONTROL?” The moonstones power said through him when suddenly Varian said “I am.” and the teal  glow in his eyes had quickly flashed away and the moonstones bright glow had faded.

He looked up to Rapunzel and she dropped to her knees next to him before speaking “Varian! You- you did it! You broke through the moonstones control!” Varian looked at Rapunzel then nodded “I guess I did… Now… What were you saying about freeing my father?”

It was the next day, Varian and Rapunzel were back at Varians house, where his father trapped in the amber was. Rapunzel had wrapped her hair around the amber “I'm going to need you to say the incantation with me. And touch the amber as we say it.” Rapunzel instructed and Varian nodded. He  removed his gloves, revealing his black rock suited hands. He took a breath, closed his eyes,  and pressed his hands onto the amber focusing his energies again as him and Rapunzel began saying the destruction incantation together “wither and decay… End this destiny… Break these earthly chains… And set the spirit free.” Varian opened an eye as they repeated the incantation, the amber began melting beneath his fingertips and Rapunzels hair which had started glowing black, along with Varians again.

Varian then looked up to see his father start to come out of the melting amber, he then  stopped saying the incantation, his glowing  blue hair returning. “DAD!” He said before looking back to see Rapunzel still in the incantation trance. He went over to her “Rapunzel! Snap out of it!” he said, but it didn't get through. “Rapunzel?...” Varian asked worriedly. He sighed then spoke again “You didn't give up on me… Im not giving up on you…” Rapunzel then suddenly broke out the trance and fell to the ground, Varian crouching down to check her “Are you okay?” he asked. Rapunzel then looked up to him and smiled,Varian did too and embraced her in a hug before getting up to run to his father “Dad! You're alive!” Varian said in happy tears as he jumped into his father's arms hugging him. Once they let each other go his father looked at Varian and smiled “Oh, son” he said. “New hair?” he asked, touching Varians glowing blue hair. Varian smiled and nodded  then looked down and gasped as the note his father wrote to him disintegrated in the amber liquid “W-what did it say? I need to know!” Varian pleaded to his father. “It just said how proud I am of you, son” his father said, leaving Varian with a big smile on his face before hugging his father again.

Some weeks had passed since the incident, Varian was sitting at his desk writing on some paper. The moonstone was still one with his body. The following night was going to be a full moon, and Varian didn't know what to expect. Once the sun had set, the moonlight had
shone into the window and onto Varian. He gasped when he felt this all too familiar feeling…
