The officers had driven us down to the station where Eden, Connor and I wrote statements and Eden was waiting for a close adult to give permission for her to be tested for signs of abuse and STDs, AIDS, pregnancy, damaged cells etc. Her parents were in Tallahassee so they were unreachable so the next person who we are in touch with who knows her parents was my dad so he was going to give permission.
We all looked up from writing our statements at my dad who walked in the police station. "Is everyone okay?"
"Yeah, just writing our statements." I replied.
"Where's the officer I need to speak with?"
"Ask for Officer Ipkiss. He's the one taking Eden's case." Connor chimed in.
"Okay, and where is Eden?" My dad asked.
"She's in the medical wing waiting for your permission." I replied.
Officer Ipkiss returned and said, "You must be Felix Henry. I'm Officer Ipkiss, I'm taking Eden Dennis' case."
"Yes, hello. What do I need to sign for Eden?" My dad asked.
"I'll be right back with the forms." He said as he walked over to the reception and grabbed a sheet of paper and a pen. "Here, read and sign these. They're just to give permission for our medical staff to give the necessary tests for Miss Eden Dennis."
"What will they be testing for exactly?" My dad asked as he took the paper.
"AIDS, STDs, pregnancy and damage in the cells. Making sure she can still reproduce if she wishes to and to make sure she hasn't caught any diseases and to test to see if she is pregnant. All of these tests will require internal testing by a female nurse/doctor." Officer Ipkiss explained. "I have to make it very clear that it will only be the nurse and the patient in the room since it requires internal testing. Unless obviously the patient would like one person to go in with her.
"Okay. I'll sign this as long as it is a female nurse who will be testing her." My dad demanded.
"Of course Mr Henry, I can have the nurse come and meet you if you feel more comfortable."
"Yes, actually. That would be great." My dad said sternly as he handed the officer the signed forms.
"Certainly, I'll go get her now." He said as he walked down the hall to the medical wing.
"Wow Felix, didn't know you had that in you." Connor said amazed.
"Eden isn't my child, meaning it is even more important I get all the information I can to ensure her safety." My dad replied.
"That's good then." Connor replied. "I finished my statement, have you?"
"Yeah, just leave it on the table." I replied.
Officer Ipkiss came back with a woman following close behind him. "Mr Henry, this is Nurse Stacy Grace. She will be examining Eden Dennis."
My dad shook her hand and said, "Nice to meet you. Will Eden get to choose someone to go in with her?"
"Yes, she's chosen Danae Henry. Which one is that?" Nurse Willow replied.
"That makes sense, I'm her boyfriend." I said as I grabbed mine and Connor's statements and handed them to the officer.
"Perfect, if you will come with me, I'll take you to the medical wing where you'll be comfort to Miss Eden." She said as she hurriedly walked down the hall and left. I followed behind closely so I didn't lose her down the halls.
Nurse Willow took me down the hall and we entered a room where the sign said 'Medical Wing'. "Are we here then?" I asked as she scanned her card through the barriers and it opened.
"Yes, we are here. If you want to see Eden before I do her tests, she's in room 8." Nurse Willow replied politely as she gestured to room 8.
"Thank you." I said as I walked to room 8 and opened the door. "Eeds? It's Dan."
I walked in and she was sitting on the hospital bed when she turned around. "Dan!" She exclaimed as she ran and hugged me. She was wearing a hospital gown and her clothes were in evidence bags sitting on the chair next to a table with some medical instruments on top.
"Are you okay?" I said as I kissed her cheek.
"Yeah, I've been waiting here forever it's been so boring." She replied as she buried her face in my chest. I held her shoulders, pulled her back a bit and looked at her.
"Are you sure you want me to be in the room while they examine you?" I asked with a serious expression.
"Yeah, I don't want your dad or Connor seeing my vagina." She explained. "And I feel safest with you."
"Okay, I'll make sure I'm right next to you." I said as the nurse walked in.
"Are you ready, Eden?" She asked while holding a clipboard.
"Yeah, I'm ready." She said.
"Okay, Danae is it?" The nurse looked at me.
"Yeah, or Dan." I replied.
"Okay, Dan, I need you to stand next to Eden's bed." She said as she rolled the table of instruments over. I then moved to the head end of Eden's bed. "Eden, I need you to scoot forward and put your feet up on the bed."
Eden moved as she was instructed to. "Perfect, this is going to feel strange and cold, okay?"
"Okay." She said as the nurse picked something up and started the examination. Eden squealed a little at the sudden coldness.
"Alright, no damaged cells, this is looking good, I need to take a sample and test it for any diseases." She said as she got up and took the sample to a microscope near the window. She looked through it and said, "Perfect, Eden, you're clear for AIDS and STDs as I'm not finding any signs or cells for them."
"That's great Eeds." I said as I rubbed her back.
"Now I need you to lift your top up to expose your stomach." Eden did as she was instructed.
"What is that?" She asked.
"This is EcoVue, Eden, it is a gel used for ultrasounds. Now this is going to feel cold as well." The nurse said as she rubbed the gel on Eden's stomach and looked at the small tv to her right. "This is a sonogram of your uterus, okay?"
"Okay." Eden said as she looked at the tv.
"See that? That is a baby." The nurse pointed to a small blob on the tv. "Congratulations."
Eden started crying.
"I'll give you some space." The nurse said as she printed off the sonogram, left it on the table and walked out of the room.
"Is that? Is that mine?" I asked Eden as I rubbed her back. She nodded her head. "Oh my god!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to get me pregnant." She cried.
"Eeds, listen to me. Please." I held her shoulders and forced eye contact, "That's our baby."
"Our baby?" She sniffed. "You want it too?"
"Yes, Eeds, I want it. Will you have this baby with me?"
"Yes! Oh my god yes!" Eden exclaimed as she wiped her tears and hugged me so tight I thought she was going to squeeze me to death. "We're gonna be a mom and dad!"
"Yes, Eden. We are gonna be parents. At the age of 17. It's fine. My dad will support us 100%."
"My parents will freak out for sure." Eden laughed.
"Yeah they will, especially since they've hated me ever since we got together." I rubbed the back of my neck. "It'll be fine, they'll see that we can be good parents."
"Yes we will."
