I sat on the chair next to Eden's hospital bed, while we were waiting for her to get cleared to go home. Eden was asleep and holding my hand while I rested my head against the side of her bed. The nurse came in a few minutes later, "Miss Eden Dennis?"
I gently squeezed Eden's hand waking her up. "Yeah?"
"You're cleared to go home." She said as she wrote something on her clipboard. "The police want to keep your clothes for evidence purposes, so I'll get you something to wear."
"Okay, thank you." She said sleepily as the nurse wandered off to get some clothes.
She shortly returned holding some folded grey clothes and handed them to Eden, "Here, dear, put these on they should fit you."
"Thank you nurse," Eden said as she walked into the bathroom with the clothes.
The nurse handed me a small envelope and said, "This has the sonograms in, as well as the details for Eden's maternity doctor, address, time, etc. I booked her in with my friend, Doctor Taylor Smith. She will be Eden's doctor until she goes home from giving birth. She is the best midwife I know, and she understands of both yours and Eden's circumstances with this pregnancy, and will be there for you both."
"Thank you nurse," I said gratefully as I took the envelope, stood up and put it in my back pocket. Eden walked out of the bathroom wearing grey joggers and a white top.
"We're gonna need to get jobs to afford a baby." She said as she tied the drawstring of her joggers up. "Also do you have any shoes?"
"Yes, I can get some, what size are you?" The nurse replied.
"Size 4." Eden answered.
"Okay, I'll be back in a minute." The nurse said as she walked out of the room.
I walked over to Eden and wrapped my arms around her, embracing her cold body. "You don't have to get a job. I'll drop out of school and get a full time job."
"No, please don't you're doing so well in school." Eden begged. "What about football?"
"Who cares? I'm going to look after you and our baby, our family." I explained as I kissed the top of her head, then I rested my chin on her head and held her tighter.
"Are you sure?" She looked up at me. "I can get one, I would just feel awf-"
"Shh," I cut her off, "You are growing a human, our baby. I'm not about to let you work even harder when I can do it for you."
"Okay." She said as she smiled. "Thank you."
I tilted my head down and brought her in for a slow, meaningful kiss. I then kissed her cheek and whispered, "We've got this."
The nurse returned with a white pair of trainers for Eden, as she was slipping them on my dad and Connor came in and said they heard about the news. They congratulated us and my dad gave us his support. I explained I wanted to drop out of school and get a full time job but my dad insisted I stayed in school but just got a part time job.
Eden got her parents on the phone and told them the news but they were not too happy about it. "Mom I-...I know...I'm sorry...Please don't do this Mom." Eden broke down in tears again. "They kicked me out, they said they want nothing to do with a dumb teenage pregnancy."
I held Eden in my arms and hugged her tightly. I looked at my dad and he nodded, meaning Eden was about to live with us. "Eeds?"
"Yeah..." She said as she wiped her tears and looked up at me.
