Chapter 7

After Red uses her magic to make her and Chloe look younger, together, the four of them head back to the auditorium. Bridget was taking down streamers while Ella was chatting with Prince Charming. They decide to split up, the twins start walking towards Ella while the married couple head towards Bridget. "Hey guys! Red, you're looking better! You feeling ok?" She nods. "Much, need any help?" Red asks. "Oh, yes please! We're pretty much done, we just need a couple people to take out the trash and put back all the chairs and tables." They both nod and grab a few chairs to put away. "Mind if i help?" She heard a voice. She turns around and smiles. "James! Hey! I heard you got detention. I'm sorry you missed the dance." Bridget frowns. "It's ok, dances aren't really my forte anyways." James shrugs. She slowly nods. "So, where is Uliana and the rest of your friends?" She asks nervously. "Ditching detention. I mean, i am too but i wanted to talk to you first. If that's ok?" Bridget smiles. "Oh, of course." They walk off to the side together. Ella watches from afar. "What's he doing with her?" She asks. "I'm not sure. But it seems like they're just talking." Crimson shrugs. "Mm-mm. I don't trust him." She shakes her head. "Yeah, neither do we." Cree glares at him from afar.

Red puts down the table and leans in. "Hey, so what are we gonna do?" She whispered. "I honestly don't know, for now, all we can do is just keep a close eye on them. If we do anything to change history again, you and Harry could be erased from existence. And by extension, the kids. We can't have four kids if you don't exist." Chloe touches her cheek. Red smiles and leans into her touch. "That's true. But we gotta be careful." Chloe nods. "Agreed, we don't want to raise suspicion." She sees the twins leave out of the corner of her eye. "Oh no, they don't." She hurries to follow them with Red close behind. "Where do you think you're going?" She asks them. "Sh!" The twins quickly warn their Ma as they crouch down to spy on Bridget. "Don't you shush her!" Red smacks them both. They both groan from the pain but focus on Bridget. "So, what was it you wanted to talk about?" She asks him. "Um, i have a confession. These past few days, I've been busy with Uliana. She wanted to get her revenge on you. For what you did with the cupcakes." Bridget bites her lip. "I tried to warn her. It was an accident." James nods. "No, i know. I know. She was planning on getting her revenge during the dance but we all got caught in Merlin's office." Bridget nods. "Ok, why are you telling me all this?" He sighs. "Because I've been feeling guilty ever since. I can't eat, I can't sleep." "It's only been a day...." "That's beside the point." James shakes his head.

"Look, i never told you this cause i was afraid of what Uliana would do if she ever found out, but i like you, Bridget. I think you're cute. And beautiful. She didn't tell the others this, but she had a backup plan, if her original one didn't work, but since we all spent last night frozen in the detention room, all plans went out the door." Bridget eyes him. "What plan? What back up plan?" James sighs. "She had a plan to make a curse cupcake, she was going to give it to you at the dance last night and turn you into a monster. We were breaking into Principal Merlin's office to get the cookbook. But she did tell me that her back up plan was to have me personally ask you to dance and humiliate you in front of everyone. But since we ALL got detention, everything went out the window." Bridget slowly nods, trying to take in all this new information. "Why are you telling me this?" She asks. "Wouldn't you get in trouble with her?" James shakes his head. "I don't care. Look, i really like you, Bridget, i promise, I'm not lying." Bridget stares at him for a moment. "How do i know you're not going to hurt me?" James shakes his head. "I would never hurt you. I swear. I'll leave Uliana's gang. I'll handle whatever she throws at me. At us. I promise, all I'm asking for is a chance. One date?" The twins resist the urge to interrupt. If anything changes, they're all goners. Well, except Chloe.

"One date?" Bridget repeats. "One date, that's all i ask." James nods. She sighs before smiling. "Alright, one date." She nods. "Yes?" James smiles. Bridget laughs. "Yes. One date. I appreciate you coming clean to me about the prank but the fact that you were still technically a part of it doesn't sit well with me so, I'm not fully trusting you just yet." James nods. "That's fine, i completely understand. Thank you. So, Friday? I'll come by your dorm around 7?" Bridget nods. "Ok, Friday at 7." James smiles. "Great, I'll see you around then." He walks off, his smile still evident on his face. "Great, my parents have a date on Friday." Red whispered. "We should offer to help her get ready." Chloe nudges her. Red nods and walks over to Bridget. "Hey, what was that? Do i need to beat him up?" She's half joking. Half. Bridget smiles and shakes her head. "No, actually um, James just asked me out on a date. Apparently he and Uliana were gonna pull some prank but they ended up getting caught so now he feels bad and wants to take me out. I said yes, but i don't know...." Bridget shrugs. "I mean, he came clean but the fact that he was gonna do it in the first place. And how do i know this isn't just another one of their pranks?" Bridget grabs her things and heads to her dorm. They follow closely behind. This was certainly not the Bridget they remembered. This Bridget seemed more, well like the Queen. She seemed older and wiser, surprisingly within one day, or overnight rather. What happened? "Well, how about you just take things slow? I mean, you can go out with him but be on guard? And we can help you get ready if you want?" Red suggests. She doesn't want her mom in the hospital nor her father dead, despite everything, he was still her father. But maybe she can change him. Maybe that's why they came back here. Not to change their relationship status but to change James entirely. "I'd like that, thanks." Bridget smiles.
