Daniel

We ran for about twenty more minutes until crazy woman stopped, making me look at her.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"I can't run anymore. Let's take a break for some time," she told me sitting down.

I nodded and we sat down.

"It is good that there is no snow. It would have been harder to run," I told her.

"Oh no," she muttered.

"What now?" I frowned.

"I just recalled that according to the weather forecast, it might snow tonight. Where will we spend the night then? We can't stay in the woods the entire night," she told me.

I took a breath, "We'll think of it when it comes to that."

She nodded and removed her jacket.

"What are you doing?" I asked her.

It was so cold and I didn't understand why she was removing her jacket right now.

"I am hungry," she said.

I chuckled, "Of course."

She took off her small backpack and opened it, "What? I haven't eaten for over six hours now."

"Makes sense. You've been busy running," I waved her off.

But, I frowned when she removed a protein bar.

"Eat something solid. You may not get this chance again," I told her.

"That's all I have on me," she shrugged.

"You can't possibly think that I'd believe that you have nothing else edible in this bag," I frowned at her.

"I don't. This bag is just my survival kit," she said taking a bite, "All necessary items that I can't live without like first aid box, water, maps, bus route info, flashlight, soap, etc."

I shrugged and looked away.

"Besides, I have survived for five days. One more night will not kill me," she shrugged.

"Five days?" I frowned.

"Yeah, I have been on the run for five days now," she answered without looking at me.

"You have been eating just this protein bar for five days?!" I asked in horror.

She shrugged, "It is a different country, Drama Queen. I don't have much money and I am a vegetarian. I eat what I get and I also, need to not have too much weight on me while I am running. It's not that bad once you get accustomed to it. "

She started eating as I looked at her speechlessly.

The girl who couldn't stay hungry for more than two hours was surviving on a small protein bar for five days.

I recalled all the times that I had taunted her for eating too much.

Even though I didn't seriously mean any of it and was just kidding at that time, I feel like I had jinxed it.

"So, how's life been for you?" she asked me, suddenly.

"Talk time's over, crazy woman. Eat peacefully," I told her, "We'll talk later."

She gave me an irritated look but, continued eating and after a few more bites, she kept it inside.

I felt extremely irritated at everything. It was all so complicated and weird. I was just frustrated looking at her living like this.
