Lia

"Really? You are coming for a scan tomorrow?" I asked Amy on the phone.

"Yes, at one. Aaron doesn't like to wait for long and I know you will kill me if we start without you. So please be there on time," she told me.

"Are you crazy? I am gonna be there before time. I'll exchange shifts with someone if I have to," I said gleefully.

"Sounds good. See you tomorrow. Bye," Amy told me.

"Bye. Love you, little plum," I cooed and hung up.

It has been a month since I returned and rejoined the hospital as a residency doctor.

An amazing month.

Everyone was super happy to see me back. The nurses, the doctors, the staff, all of them.

I'm not particularly eager to let people too much into my life but, I make friends easily and I was happy to know that I was missed.

David has completed his residency and has started working as an orthopaedic surgeon for the hospital.

I learned from the receptionist that David went to an international conference followed by a month's break right before I came back.

Hence, I haven't met him yet, but I am excited to see his reaction when he sees me today.

As soon as I got on my lunch break, I decided to go surprise him.

I knocked on the door of his cabin and tried to say in a coarser tone, "May I come in?"

"Come in," he replied.

I opened the door and walked inside.

"Please take a seat. I'll be right with you," he said without looking up from his laptop.

"Making patients wait? Not good, not good. What kind of a hospital is this?" I said in a manly voice.

"I am sorry, sir. Just finishing a report," he said, still typing on his laptop.

"Sir? You think I am a man? This is so not done! I am going to report you!" I turned around before he could see me and stomped out of the cabin.

"Sorry, ma'am. No," he muttered and I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing as I heard him follow me.

I took a few more steps before I finally came to a halt near the elevator.

"Ma'am, I am sorry. I thought -" he stopped talking and his eyes widened as he turned me around.

"Hello, doctor," I gave him a cheeky smile.

"Lia?!" he exclaimed, happily, "Oh my god! It's so good to see you."

He hugged me.

"It is great to see you too, Dr. David," I said as I let him go.

"How have you been? You didn't even say a bye, or reply to any of my messages, or calls. I thought you forgot me," he smiled.

"I didn't forget you. I just went out of touch for some time. I was just taking a much-needed break from everything," I explained.

"Understandable. But, it is great to see you again," he smiled.

"You too," I smiled.

"So, are you working here again now?" he asked me.

"Yes, I am. I started my residency in neurology a month ago," I told him.

"That's awesome. Why didn't you tell me before?" he asked.

"You were on a break, silly," I laughed.

"Yeah, of course. I...I am just super happy to see you again," he laughed and ran a hand through his hair.
