Hunter sat on the edge of your bed, his gaze fixed on the floor. His usual calm, detached demeanor was nowhere to be found. Instead, there was a heaviness in his eyes, something you had never seen before-something that made your heart race with fear.

"Is something wrong?" you asked, your voice quieter than usual.

Hunter's hands were clenched, his knuckles white as he tried to find the words. He'd thought about this for days, agonizing over what he knew he had to do.

You were being pushed to your limits. Hunter couldn't see you torn apart like this, by your family's demands. You were a Blight, who was expected to be at the top at every moment.

The two of you had been dating for months now. Hunter had seen it, how hard you overworked and pushed yourself just to meet their expectations. And as much as he hated it, he knew he was becoming part of the problem-a distraction that was making everything worse.

"[Name]," he began, his voice low and steady, but there was an edge of sadness that immediately made you tense up. "I think we need to stop this."

Your eyes widened as your voice quivered. "Stop what?"

"Us," he said simply, though the word felt like a punch to his gut. "We need to stop... seeing each other."

You blinked, trying to process what he was saying. "Hunter, what are you talking about? Why would you even-?"

"You're under so much pressure already." He cut you off, his voice irritatingly calm with the weight of his words that fell down on you. "Your mother, your family, everything they expect from you. I'm just... making things harder for you. And I can't do that to you anymore."

You stared at him, shock giving way to anger. "You think this is helping me? By breaking up with me?"

"It's not about what I want," he replied. "It's about what you need."

"And you think you know what I need?" You shot back, your temper rising as you stood up from the bed. "You're just going to decide what's best for me? That's not your call, Hunter!"

"I can't watch you suffer like this," he said, his voice finally wavering just a bit. "Every day, I see how your mother pressures you, how you're struggling to balance everything. You've got enough on your plate without me adding to it."

"Struggling?" You scoffed, though there was an edge of panic in your voice. "I'm not struggling, Hunter! I can handle it! I've handled worse! My mother's always going to be like this, but that doesn't mean I can't have a life outside of her control."
