Harper

Thanksgiving day was going well.

I had spent most of the morning cooking, baking, and cleaning. David was working on something and couldn't help me so I was doing it all myself. Once everything was in the oven and I had a spare moment I rushed to the bathroom to get myself together before David's family arrived.

I was probably only a minute into my shower when I heard the bathroom door open and close, and then the door to the shower opened, the cold air hitting my skin making goosebumps arise.

I felt hands on my hips, slowly moving towards the bottom of my stomach. I pushed his hands off, moving to put shampoo in my hands. He didn't take the hint though, his head nuzzling into my neck, peppering kisses on my skin.

I moved my head so he couldn't have access, "David." I tried to step away but he pulled me back. "I'm trying to get myself ready."

"This won't take long." He kept trying, his hands trying to move around the front of me again.

"I don't have time." I pushed his hands again, the shampoo completely forgotten and washed down the drain.

"C'mon baby." I sighed, pushing his hands away again.

"David, no."

I heard him sigh, his hands dropping off of me, "whatever, I don't even know why I tried." He flung the shower door open, stomping out and grabbing a towel harshly. "Hurry up, my family will be here any minute." He barely glanced at me while he opened and slammed the door behind him.

I flinched at the sound, pushing away the tears and guilty feeling while I finished showering.

"So, Harper, how's school been?" I looked up from my plate of food, looking at David's father.

"Oh, uhm, it's been good. Keeping me busy." He nodded at me, taking another bite of his food. It was silent for a minute before his mom spoke up.

"So, not to jump the gun or anything," She laughed lightly with a giddy smile, "how soon are you two thinking about having kids?" I coughed a little on my food, not expecting that question. David gave me a look but rubbed my back as he answered the question.

"Hopefully sooner than later." His mom clapped a little and his dad had a neutral face.

"And you're going to be a stay at home mom, right?"

"Oh, I uh, we haven't-"

"You know, I was a stay at home mom. Truly a blessing, it's too much to work and take care of the home and kids. Don't you agree? Plus David makes enough to support the both of you. Don't you David?" He nodded, responding to his mom.

"I do. You know I appreciated having you home when we were little. I wouldn't want anything different for my kids." He set his hand on my thigh and I went to say something, to disagree, to say that my work was important to me, but he squeezed my thigh giving me a look that told me to be quiet.

His dad had a look of approval on his face.

I didn't even have a chance to question what was going on when my phone ringed in the other room.

"Excuse me, I thought it was on silent." I stood up quickly, David's hand falling from my leg. I walked away without looking at anyone, going to find my phone. The ringing stopped before I could answer it, and as soon as I was silencing it, it rang again.

I saw an unknown number, but I knew who it was. I contemplated answering it but ultimately declined the call. I went to walk away when it rang again.

This time, I picked it up.
