Orion's mind raced with questions, and he took a deep breath to steady himself. “When were you born?” he asked softly, his voice trembling with a mixture of curiosity and dread.

The little girl in the portrait looked at him with a mixture of sadness and tenderness. “I was born right after Mama died,” she said, her voice carrying a mournful tone. “Mama was very ill, and I came into the world just as she was leaving it.”

Orion’s heart ached as he listened. The connection between the little girl’s birth and their mother’s death was both poignant and troubling. He tried to piece together the fragments of the past that had been obscured for so long.

“Tell me more,” Orion urged gently. “What happened after you were born? Why were you hidden away?”

The little girl’s eyes grew distant as she recalled the past. “Mama’s death was a terrible blow to our family. She was the heart of the manor, and her passing left a void that was filled with sorrow and darkness. Father was distraught, and the manor fell into disarray.”

She paused, her gaze becoming more intense. “In the midst of that turmoil, there were fears that dark magic might be drawn to the manor, seeking to exploit the grief and vulnerability of our family. To protect me from any harm, I was hidden away.”

Orion’s eyes widened with realization. “Hidden away? Where?”

The little girl’s expression grew somber. “In the old parts of the manor that were sealed off. There were secret rooms and passages that only a few knew about. I was placed in one of those hidden places, where I would be safe from the dangers outside.”

Orion’s mind whirled with the implications of her words. The manor’s history, the dark magic, and the family’s secrets were all converging in a way that was both enlightening and disturbing.

“Why was I never told about you?” Orion asked, his voice breaking. “Why was this kept from me?”

The little girl’s eyes softened with empathy. “It was a decision made to protect you. Father wanted to shield you from the knowledge of such painful truths. But now that the manor is in danger, the past has come back to claim its due. We need to address it together.”

Orion felt a lump in his throat. The weight of the secrets and the responsibility of dealing with them pressed heavily upon him. “What can we do now? How can we fix everything?”

The little girl’s portrait glowed faintly as she spoke. “There are old family spells and protections that can be activated. We must find the right ones to counter the dark magic and restore balance. The hidden rooms hold clues to these protections, but they are well-guarded.”

Orion nodded, determination flickering in his eyes. “We’ll find those protections. We’ll do whatever it takes to save the manor and uncover the truth.”

The little girl gave him a reassuring smile. “You’re strong, big brother. The family’s magic is in you, and together we can overcome the darkness.”

With a renewed sense of purpose, Orion turned to his family and the gathered allies. “We need to investigate the hidden rooms and find the spells that can help us. The secrets of the manor and the key to saving it are buried within those walls.”

As the family prepared to delve into the manor’s hidden passages and uncover its long-buried secrets, the little girl’s portrait watched over them with a hopeful gaze. The journey to restore balance and confront the dark magic had only just begun, but with the past finally coming to light, they were ready to face the challenges ahead.
