Chapter Two

Sofia

I'm in my room, thinking about the last time my childhood friend group had all been together. It was the night of our graduation ball; it seems like years ago, but it's only been one year since then. I startle when Baileywick, my butler, comes in and tells me to get dressed.

For some reason, my father asked that the monarchs of Whelshire, Zumeria, Freezenberg, Tangu, and Corinthia come to Enchancia for some "urgent matter." So we are to host a dinner tonight. All the Queen and Kings will make an appearance no doubt, but I do hope some of my friends will choose to tag along. Especially Hugo... and Vivian of course. I stayed in contact with Vivian, though she has been gone for about almost a year now studying to be the future queen. I have also seen Hugo a few times, but not as much as I would have liked. I haven't seen a lot of my other friends since the night of the ball, though.

Things have been a bit messy since Clio's brother Christian tragically died only a month and a half after his and Astrid's engagement. It was understandably traumatic for both Astrid's family and Clio's. It wasn't just them who mourned his death though, he was well-loved by everyone.

I decide to start getting ready, picking out one of my new purple gowns. It is frilly with lace and silk. It's tight in all the right spots while still being breathable. I want to look good tonight. I can't stop myself from wondering if Hugo will show, and if he will think my dress is as perfect as I do. I know it's silly, but I haven't seen him in a few months. I've been busy teaching classes at Royal Prep Academy, so that takes up most of my free time.

I walk over to my vanity to do some light makeup. I put on mascara, powder, and lipstick. I almost smear the pretty pink color when Baileywick suddenly comes in again.

"Princess Sofia, the king would like you downstairs in five minutes."
