MAYBE MIKAYLA should be happy that she was starting her first year in high-school. At least now she had the chance to escape her parents' watchful eyes for a couple of hours each day.

But don't get her wrong—she loved her parents dearly. They were her biggest supporters, always cheering her on during baking competitions and helped her organize many fundraisers. Still, their strictness could be overwhelming. Like the time they refused to let her attend sleepovers, citing 'safety concerns'. Or when they closely monitored her phone usage and limited her screen time, especially on school days, insisting that her primary focus should be on her grades.

Mikayla guessed that their strictness would only tightened now that she was starting high school, and the thought made her stomach twist. She was excited about the freedom but anxious about the looming restrictions that would surely come with this new chapter.

At 7.00am sharp, Mikayla hopped out of bed and began her morning routine. Rushing into the bathroom, completing her hygiene by brushing her teeth, showering and washing her face with a collection of skincare products.

As she began wrapping a towel around her curly wet hair, the bathroom door swung open to reveal that it was Levi. The third grader still hadn't dressed up for school yet as it was evident from sporting in his pajamas.

As if the older sister didn't existed, Levi stood right next to her then pulled opened the drawers to search for something. "Levi, can't you see I'm using the bathroom?" She lightly chuckled.

Levi sent her a brief look making it clear that he did not care and continued looking through the items inside the drawers. The youngest child in the Holloway family had selective mutism, where he only talked to people he felt comfortable with, and he was particularly close to his grandfather, who sadly passed away about six months ago.

Naomi tried to put him into activities to get Levi to interact with other kids but it ended up with him sneaking off somewhere.

Levi averted his gaze to her mascara brush and held it up to examine the item. Immediately Mikayla snatched it off him then he moved onto her lotion which again, she grabbed from him.
