chapter four
( the dating rule )
MIKAYLA'S UPBRINGING was like living under a glass dome—beautiful yet stifling. Her father, a dedicated pastor, adhered to a strict set of rules that dictated every aspect of her life. From a young age, she learned that her actions reflected not only on herself but also on her family's reputation within their close knit community. The rules were unyielding: no late nights, no wild parties, no rebellious outfits and certainly no dating. She was expected to be present herself as the perfect little angel, always polished and pointed, with her hair neatly tied back and clothes that were modest yet stylish. In public, she wore a smile that masked the weight of her responsibilities, the pressure to embodied the ideals of her parents' faith.
As the years passed, the expectations grew heavier, and Mikayla often felt overwhelmed. She longed for the freedom to be just a teenager—to loudly laugh with her friends, to dance without a care, to experience the thrill of spontaneity. At times, she would catch herself daydreaming about a night where she could shred the angelic facade, even if just for a moment, to embrace the wildness of youth.
She guessed those fleeting moments of rebellion was when she accepted a ride home from Aiden Hawthorne. Dropping Lydia at her place whereas he dropped Mikayla about a block away from hers, in fear that her parents might be home.
Levi didn't wasted a moment to hop out of the vehicle then running inside the home, without even thanking the blond for dropping him off.
Although, Aiden didn't seemed to mind Levi's rudeness cause throughout the entire car ride home, his blue eyes kept on briefly shifting back onto Mikayla through the rearview mirror which made her cheeks reddened every single time.
Sending him a wave goodbye, Aiden's car left her neighborhood whilst Mikayla began making her way home. Ascending up the porch steps, she then swung opened the door only to meet Rebecca standing at one of the steps of the stairs.
