As we gathered around the dinner table, enjoying a warm and hearty meal, the conversation flowed easily. Lexie's family was friendly and welcoming, making me feel at home. We chatted about our day and shared laughs, but then her mom, suddenly shifted the topic.

"Speaking of the future," Her mom began, her tone taking on a more serious note, "we've been making some big decisions lately. After Lexie's graduation, we're planning to move abroad. There are more opportunities for us there. Besides, your uncle is willing to take us in."

The announcement caught me off guard. I looked at Lexie, who seemed momentarily stunned. She glanced down at her plate, her fork frozen mid-air. I could sense the weight of the news settling over her, and it made me uneasy.

"Wow, that's a big move," I said, trying to keep my voice steady and supportive. "What kind of opportunities are you looking at?"

Her mom nodded, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Their uncle has a few business ventures there, and he's offered to help us get settled. It's a great chance for us to start fresh and explore new possibilities."

Brielle chimed in, trying to lighten the mood. "It's not just about work, either. We're excited about the change. It's a new adventure for all of us."

I glanced at Lexie, whose expression was a mix of surprise and contemplation. "What do you think about the move, Lexie?" I asked gently, trying to gauge her feelings.

Lexie took a deep breath, her gaze still fixed on her plate. "I... I don't know yet. It's a lot to process. I've always imagined staying here, finishing my career, and finding my own path."

Her mom reached out and placed a comforting hand on Lexie's. "I understand, sweetheart. It's a big change, and it's okay to have mixed feelings about it. We just wanted to let you know as soon as possible."

The conversation continued around the table, but I could feel the tension simmering beneath the surface. Lexie's usual spark was noticeably dimmed by the weight of her family's news. As everyone chatted about lighter topics, I watched Lexie, who seemed lost in thought.

Suddenly, Lexie broke the silence with a question that hung heavy in the room. "Can't I just stay here?"

Her mother's face softened with concern. "Sweetie, I can't just leave you here alone, especially with your condition."

Lexie's eyes filled with tears, her voice trembling. "I'll be with Trish. She'll look out for me."

Her mother sighed, her tone firm but gentle. "I understand this is a lot to take in, but you'll soon understand how important this move is for us, Lexie."

"But you don't understand," Lexie said, her voice breaking. "My life is here."

The room fell silent, the weight of Lexie's words sinking in. Her mother looked pained, clearly torn between her own hopes for the family's future and her daughter's distress. "I know this isn't easy," Her mother said softly, her voice cracking slightly. "But this is a chance for a new beginning for all of us. We need to do what's best for our family."

I reached over and gently took Lexie's hand, offering her a supportive squeeze.

After dinner, I guided Lexie outside, needing to get some fresh air and a moment of solitude.

"Hey, just breathe," I said softly, trying to reassure her. "Everything's going to be okay."

Lexie's eyes were brimming with tears. "What about us? We've only just started being together, and now they're taking me away from you? I don't think I can handle that, Trish."
