Kay's POV
"Hey, Eiren," I greet as I place my books on my desk.
"Hi, what's up? How has your first week been?" he asks.
"Good, I guess. Other than that potions incident."
He snorted, "I forgot about that."
Last week, during Potions, Lucas was my partner to make a more advanced healing elixir that made the mind calm down and reduce stress, then we would drink it to see if it worked. We were supposed to add a cup of crushed lavender and a half cup of chamomile to the already boiling mixture of Emeryllia, which is a....what even is it? Right, a "potion itself naturally". I thought we were making herbal tea, until Mr Melville said we would add precisely 2 drops of liquified poppy. I'm sorry, opium? We were going to consume drugs?! Anyway, Lucas' bright mind decided to let me put in the poppy, and kind of accidentally tipped in half the bottle.
I didn't tell anyone because I thought it wasn't such a big deal, I mean, the potion was supposed to dull the senses, I was convinced we would even do a better job!
Nope. Not at all. I almost put Lucas in a coma.
Turns out poppy extract is way stronger in Velvimr, so once Lucas drank the elixir, he was fine for a few minutes, then his head slammed on the table. Knocked out completely.
After that, once the nurse was able to wake him up, she said that if I put in any more opium, he would have been in a full-on coma.
Oops?
"It was an accident, I didn't know he would be knocked out cold."
"It sounds like you're new to potion making."
I freeze up. Did I really sound like that? No one is supposed to know I'm a "human" or at least lived in the human realm for most of my life. "Well, obviously, I'm quite new, I just enrolled here. I didn't know much about potion mixing before."
"Which just reminded me, it's weird you enrolled into Querida in Level 3, where were you for the past 2 years?"
I internally groan, but I manage to answer hesitantly, "My mom wanted to go to Mageia when I was 12 and I followed her. We stayed until a few weeks ago, my mom dropped me at Ilkesi's because she didn't want me missing more school."
"That's hardly believable. There's a school in Mageia, and even if there wasn't, it's Mageia, the origin of potion making. If you did spend two years in Mageia, you should've been able to avoid the Potions fiasco because you would know enough about Potions to know the results of half a bottle of liquified poppy."
My eyes widened. Dang, he's smart. Why did I pick Mageia?
"Fine, you caught me. I'll confess, I'll tell you the truth."
Eiren looked triumphant, "Well?"
I take a deep breath, "I was embarrassed because we actually went to Kobolde and I didn't want to attend school because I didn't think I belonged, because I'm a fairy."
I pray with every fibre of my body that he believes that horribly constructed lie. Eventually, he nods, and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"I get that. I once went to Kobolde for 2 weeks in the middle of the semester and when I came back I told everyone I went to Elvia. They all found out anyway, and no one really cares, so it's okay."
"Good to know."
I was freaking out there. I need to learn how to lie better.
Madam Bolnazero comes in, her green robes and all. "Children. Who can translate these runes for me?"
