Narrator's POV
Kay quickly figured out that her task was way harder than she expected.
For starters, there were 4 Mageians. Any one of their descendants could have the potions. Then she had to go through the entire family tree and figure out their last living descendant, and the place they lived.
But she couldn't do any of that if she didn't even know who the 4 Mageians were! All the books she read just said, '4 Mageians', it didn't mention any names!
She groaned as she fell back on her bed, books falling off it. Ilkesi chuckled as she was reading a book on her bed. "You find anything?"
Kay glared at her, "No! How am I supposed to find the last living descendant of one of four Mageians, when I don't even know any of their names?"
Ilkesi hummed, "They got exiled, didn't they?"
"Yeah."
"There's always a record of exiled families or persons for each province. And most of the older records are available to the public."
Kay sat up at that, "So what you're saying is that we can get a list of all the people banished from Mageia a hundred years ago, and I have my four Mageians?"
"It's not that easy, Kay."
She grumbled, crossing her arms, "It's never easy."
"You don't know what part of a hundred years ago that the 4 Mageians got exiled. Besides, even if you do, I bet dozens of people were exiled in that year as well. How will you narrow it down?"
A voice spoke from the doorway, "I can help with that."
The girls jumped as they saw Mr Lysen in the doorway, looking into the room.
"Dad!" Ilkesi grumbled, "Ever heard of knocking?"
"The door was wide open, I couldn't help myself, especially since Mikayla is drowning in books," he chuckled, "Don't worry, I heard most of your conversation. I can help you narrow it down."
Kay looked at Mr Lysen, curious, "How?"
"Let's just say, I have a friend who is one of the last living descendants of one of the 4 Mageians." he smirked. "Can't guarantee you he has the potions, but at least you'll know something."
"Where is he? Can we meet him?" Kay asked hurriedly.
"He's coming over for dinner, actually. Today must be your lucky day."
Ilkesi's eyes widened, "Uncle Ishcar is related to Mageians?"
Kay's head snapped to Ilkesi, "You're related to Mageians?"
Both of their heads snapped to Mr Lysen, eyes wide. Mr Lysen laughed.
"The look on both of your faces is priceless!" he calmed down. "Yes, Ishcar is one of the last living descendants of one of the four Mageians, so he could help you out a bit."
Kay's face deflated as she thought of something, "But the surname should've changed at least twice in the last 100 years, right?"
"Well, Uncle Ishcar is the type of person to have records of his entire family under his roof..." Ilkesi's mouth formed a huge smile, "You are the greatest dad ever."
"Don't mention it. Honestly, don't mention it. I don't want your mother hearing about this. She doesn't like me talking about Il'Homan."
Ilkesi's dad gives them a warm smile and leaves the room. Kay turns back to Ilkesi in shock.
"Who's Uncle Ishcar?" she asks.
"He's more of my dad's cousin. He's half fairy but I never knew the other half was wizard! He's coming over for dinner tonight, we can ask him for his lineage name, and trace it back to old records!"
