As we pull up the driveway of Warren's childhood home, I can't help but notice how extravagant it looks. I have no idea what his mother does for a living, but it must pay well.
The three-story house is painted in a classy beige and white color scheme, with windows that give it an almost regal appearance. The driveway is packed with cars, six in total, and not a single one looks cheap.
Even Warren's black G-wagon takes up a lot of space, but there's still room for two more cars. It's basically an eight-car garage, and I can't help but feel a little out of place next to all this luxury.
"Don't worry, everyone here is pretty chill, except for the potential showdown between my aunt and mom," Warren says nonchalantly, causing me to raise an eyebrow.
He grabs my suitcase from the trunk of his car, and I follow him up the cement path lined with bushes towards the large modern black door. The sound of laughter seeps out from inside, making me a bit nervous. But as if sensing my anxiety, Warren turns around and plants a kiss on my forehead before winking at me, instantly putting me at ease.
We step inside and my eyes widen at the glamor of the living room. The high walls and even higher windows make me feel like I'm in a fancy penthouse. The oak wood floors are pristine and the long L-shaped sofa in a nice beige color looks inviting.
The coffee table and picture frames on the wall add to the luxurious feel. It's like an apartment designer's dream come true. I'm expecting a large family gathering, but to my surprise, there are only five people here, including a little girl. I fiddle nervously with my bracelet, feeling a bit out of place.
"Look who Satan dragged in," A familiar voice teases from behind us.
I turn to see Sammie, Warren's sister. I smile at her playful wink, feeling as comfortable with her as I do with Ari.
"You know Satan couldn't keep me from meeting my favorite Warren sibling," I joke, trying to lighten the mood.
I can feel Warren's eyes on me, but I ignore it as we share a laugh and a hug.
After we pull away, I take a moment to really look at her. She looks the same as I remember, with her shoulder length black hair and mischievous blue eyes. But something is different.
Her cute, chubby cheeks are still there, so is her defined jawline and nose. My eyes widened in surprise at the subtle change. "Holy crap, Sammie, when did you get your nose pierced?" I exclaim, staring at the shiny new hoop on the left side
of her nostril. She grins, pleased with my reaction.
"You pierced your nose?" Warren chimes in, making me burst into laughter at his obliviousness.
"I can't believe you noticed, unlike someone over here," Sammie shoots a playful glare at Warren, who just rolls his eyes in response.
"So, what are you doing here?" Sammie asks the question I was dreading, making me feel like a total outsider.
"She's my girlfriend," Warren announces proudly, wrapping his arm around my shoulder with a charming smile that makes me blush.
How can he be so good-looking and charming at the same time?
"I knew it-" Sammie starts to say with a grin, but we are interrupted by a loud screech from behind us. We all snap our heads to see a woman glaring at Warren.
"You didn't tell me you had a girlfriend, Kohl Warren," The woman says with a scowl directed at Warren.
"You told me to tell you important things in person, ma," Warren says, giving her a hug. She slaps him so hard that I'm surprised he doesn't wince.
Wait, mom? But she looks so young. Her skin is smooth, with no wrinkles. Her eyes are green, not blue like Warrens or Sammie's. Her brunette hair is shiny and looks healthy, it's styled in a high bun. She's tall, with the same sculpted nose and chin as Sammie.
Her lazy eyes are similar to Warrens, except hers are green and his are blue. She's pretty tall, about 2 inches taller than me, and stunning. She's on the skinny side, as revealed by her long sundress.
"I should kick you, but I did say that-" Her voice is calming, lovely, and soft-spoken. "-She's definitely gorgeous," she finishes, looking at me with a smile that shows genuine affection.
"I'm Leia, nice to meet you, Ms. Warren," I say, nervously extending my hand. But she surprises me by raising an eyebrow and pulling me into a hug. I smile, finding her quite nice.
"Call me Margaret," she says, winking at me. "Or mom," she adds with a laugh. Sammie joins in, and Margaret heads to the large kitchen.
As I get introduced to everyone, I start to feel more at ease. They're all so friendly. I haven't had a chance to chat with the little girl yet.
She ran off somewhere, but I'm determined to befriend her, even though she's 10 years old. I sit on a kitchen stool, enjoying the delicious rice Margaret made. It's the best homemade dish I've ever tasted.
I watch as Tomas, Warren's grandpa, catches a football thrown by Sammie. He throws it back, but it accidentally hits her in the head. He quickly rushes over to check on her.
For a grandpa, he's in great shape. He shares some of Sammie's features, except for the black hair - he's bald.
Sammie sticks her tongue out at him, and he playfully flips her off. I chuckle to myself. Meanwhile, Margaret is engaged in an argument with Jackie, Warren's aunt.
Jackie is nice, though she doesn't resemble her sister Margaret much. She's still stunning, with her blonde hair and green eyes. Her curvy figure is accentuated by her blue jeans and plaid top.
Despite their differences, the way they're fighting over who gets to put the glass star on the tree shows that they are definitely sisters.
Sabrina, Margaret's younger sister and Warren's aunt, approaches me. She told me earlier how having her daughter at 18 was the best thing that ever happened to her.
Sabrina, slender like Margaret, has hazel eyes and short black hair. It seems like everyone in the family has striking eyes.
"So how are you liking the messy family?" Sabrina asks with a mischievous glint in her eye, gesturing to the chaos around us as family members fight and break things.
I can't help but laugh at the sight of Margaret and Jackie shoving each other.
"Honestly, it's kind of chaotic but I'm not complaining," I reply, chuckling along with Sabrina.
"Have you seen Warren though?" I inquire, realizing that I haven't spotted him in the last thirty minutes.
"He's in the backyard with Reese," Sabrina informs me, prompting me to make my way towards the big glass door and slide it open.
Reese, Sabrina's 10-year-old daughter, is playing with Warren. I'm eager to meet her, knowing that she's a part of Warren's family. I have a feeling I'm going to really like this little girl, just like I've taken a liking to everyone else in this lively and welcoming family.
