The sound of the bell signifies the end of another intense day of training, prompting the game makers to hastily collect their notes, a flurry of movement marking the official conclusion of Day One.

As I glance at Cove, I can't help but say, "Well... that went by surprisingly fast..." The peacekeepers sweep in like a relentless wave, herding us toward the exit as if we're livestock being led to pasture, their commanding presence cutting through the last vestiges of our shared adrenaline.

Cove nods in agreement, still processing the day's events, but the exhaustion etched on his face clearly shows he's ready to collapse into bed and erase today from his memory.

He rubs his eyes, and I feel a surge of sympathy for him; maintaining this façade is utterly draining for all of us. As the peacekeepers systematically direct us toward the elevators and our assigned quarters, I notice the other tributes throwing cautious glances my way, a tension in the air that feels almost tangible.

The memory of my earlier confrontation with Reef, the boy from District Four, weighs heavily around us.

It feels as if every sidelong look is a challenge, silently questioning how I managed to turn what should have been a friendly rivalry into a full-blown conflict.

But when our eyes finally meet, something shifts inside me. I can't help but let a mischievous smirk slip, sending a playful wave in his direction—a subtle act of provocation laced with defiance.

Cove spots my antics and raises an eyebrow, a smirk forming on his lips as he follows my gaze.

"Making friends already, huh?" he teases, his voice lightening the tension in the air.

I chuckle in response, "More like enemies..." as I notice Reef's glare intensifying, his fury evident but ultimately in vain.

Cove joins my laughter, clearly amused by the unexpected bond that is forming through conflict, as I've somehow managed to ruffle Reef's feathers without any effort.

"You certainly have a way with people," he quips, enjoying the strong reactions I provoke—whether they stem from charm or irritation.

In this intricate survival dance, the boundaries between ally and adversary blur as we manoeuvre through a landscape that requires both cunning and cleverness, with every interaction holding the potential for surprising alliances or deeper rivalries.

"And here I thought I'd be making matching friendship bracelets with everyone..." I say, my feigned sincerity barely hiding the humour bubbling beneath the surface.

Cove snorts, his laughter bouncing off the elevator walls, and as the doors begin to close, I catch a glimpse of Reef. He's furiously pointing at me; his face flushed a deep red as he theatrically vents his anger at Finnick.

It's a hilarious sight that would usually make me grin, but my focus shifts to Finnick.

For a fleeting moment, our eyes meet, and a silent understanding passes between us as the metal doors shut, shielding me from the brewing storm outside.

Cove's expression shifts to one of concern as he glances in my direction, piercing through the light-hearted atmosphere we had created.

"Looks like you've stirred up some trouble already," he observes quietly, his gaze scrutinizing me with an intensity that makes me uneasy.

I respond with a casual shrug, unfazed by Reef's fury; just another name on the ever-growing list of those eager to see me stumble or worse.

"It's not my fault he gets worked up so easily. He really shouldn't have acted like a jerk when I approached 'his' station," I snap back, rolling my eyes dramatically as a reluctant grin creeps onto my face.
