PHOENIX
My feet are throbbing. Not a good idea to wear these heels on my first day of work while walking to the subway. I noticed some women wearing sneakers with their skirts on the subway while holding a little tote. I bet those smart women were carrying their heels in those totes. I'll be doing that from now on if the swelling ever goes down.
I take off my heels in the elevator and walk barefoot to Angelica's apartment. All I want to do is soak my feet and just go to bed until tomorrow. I don't even care about eating dinner.
Rook was in his office the rest of the morning after he told me I was going to be his date at the company party. My face widens to a smile when I think about it. Damn it. He's starting to get under my skin. His flirting and teasing leaves me in a state of constant embarrassment. I swear I don't need to apply blush because I feel my cheeks heat up every five seconds when I'm in his presence. He was gone the rest of the afternoon, so we never did have our lunch date.
Daisy and some of the other assistants met up in the conference room to have lunch and invited me. It was a little uncomfortable since most of them have been with the company for years and would comment about Rook. How sexy he is. How nice it is to have some eye candy to look out. Jeez, most of these women were married but turned feral when they spoke of Rook. Can't say I blame them. He is hot and such a flirt. I overheard him complimenting the UPS lady on how the brown uniform brought out the highlights in her hair. I thought she was going to melt onto the floor.
If eye rolling were an exercise, I would get my cardio in for the week. I shove my key in the lock and open the door. The view that greets me makes me drop my purse and shoes with a loud thud. My cousin is spread out on the kitchen counter, naked and Cam's head is between the legs.
"Oh fuck," I yell as I close the door and turn around, plastering my face against it. I hear cursing and shuffling. "I'm so sorry."
Oh God, I had breakfast on that counter this morning. Never again! Now I have to gouge my eyes out and take a metal brush to my brain because I can not unsee that.
I hear feet running to the back and a door close when I feel a hand on my shoulder making me jump. I turn to face Angel. Thank fuck she's wearing a robe.
"We didn't expect you to come home so early," Angel said as she helped me pick up my purse and shoes.
"Obviously," I answer trying not to look at her. I don't think I will ever be able to look her in the eye again. "Anyway, it's not early. It's seven o'clock."
"Um, we lost track of time," she giggled. Cam came out of the bedroom wearing pants, thankfully.
"Sorry about that," he said as I kept looking at my shoes.
"Hey, stop apologizing. This is your place. I'm the one who's sorry," I answered.
"Ok, can we stop apologizing and move on?" Angel asked.
"I'm just going to go straight to bed so you guys can carry on," I say as I run to my bedroom and shut the door. FUCK! That wasn't awkward at all. I really need to find my own place, fast.
I hear them go back to her bedroom so I quickly grab some clothes and take a shower so I can try to go to sleep.
Of course, the walls are paper thin so I can hear them. I grab my earbuds and stick them in my ears trying to drown out the groans and grunts.
Lord, they have stamina because they don't stop until 1am. I finally take out my ear buds and make a mental note to buy ear plugs tomorrow after work.
My alarm wakes me up at 7am and I'm exhausted. Quickly getting ready for work before I accidentally bump into the sex bunnies, I figure I'll buy breakfast on my way to work because I won't be eating on that kitchen counter for a while, if ever again.
