PHOENIX

Somebody kill me. This pain is tearing me apart. Like an alien is trying to rip out of my body, just like the movie. I turn my face to look at my husband. "Rook, I swear if you ever come near me again, I'll cut your dick off and shove it up your ass," I threaten. His face pales as he wipes the sweat off my brow.

The nurse next to me laughs. I don't remember saying anything funny. I'm dead serious.

"Don't worry, she doesn't mean it. If I had a dollar for every time a woman said that to the father of her child, I'd be living on the beach sipping margaritas while a cabana boy fans me," Nurse Johnson states.

I look over to the other side of the room where the nurses are weighing my son. He came out effortlessly but my daughter; she just wants to stay where it's warm and cozy.

"One more push, Mrs. Raines," the doctor coaxes.

Rook props me up as I grit my teeth to push again. "Liar, you said that three pushes ago." I take a deep breath and push as Rook counts in my ear. If this child doesn't come out soon, I'm going to reach in a drag her out myself.

"Here she comes," Rook says as he looks down in awe. A few seconds later the room is filled with her screams of protest. Relief surrounds me as I sink into Rook's arms.

"I feel like I physically gave birth to Freddy Kruger's gloves," I pant.

He kisses me forehead. "You did great, Sunrise. Such a good girl. I'm so proud of you."

Praise kink unlocked. Those words fill me and give me strength. The doctor holds up my daughter. Even though she has gunk all over her, which I don't want to think about, she's just as beautiful as our son. Holy shit, I'm a mom. These little humans now rely on me. Trying not to let the panic set it, I look at Rook who has the same look on his face.

"We can do this, Checkmate. We're a team," I try to give him the pep talk I don't even feel.

"That we are, baby," he says against my lips.

Once I'm cleaned up with Rook's help, the nurses bring in our babies. I'm sitting in a chair as Rook is sitting next to me, on the arm of the chair. The nurse hands me our daughter while Rook takes our son. This moment is so surreal. I look up at Rook and practically fall in love with him all over again. His face is full of awe and reverence as he looks at our son. I feel the tears fill my eyes. His eyes fall to mine as he gives me a gentle kiss.

"Look what you did." He holds up our son. "Thank you, Sunrise. I never knew I could be this happy," he says in a husky whisper as our babies sleep in our arms.

I think my heart crawled out of my mouth and fell on the floor, melted. Right at that time, our daughter decides she's hungry because she opens her mouth and lets out a wail waking her brother. "Hmm. Sounds like her father," I joke as I adjust my top so I can feed her.

Rook leans over. "These tits are only on loan for our kids temporarily. I'll be getting my turn soon."

I blush as I move our daughter so our son can latch on to the other breast. Rook just watches in awe as I feed our kids. "What?"

"Just looking at my family. My whole world. Right in front of me."

Once they are done, our son opens his eyes and that's when I notice, he has mismatched eyes. One is ocean blue like Rook's and the other is brown like mine. Rook notices my face and comes over. We are both surprised.

"It seems he couldn't decide which one of us he should look like so being the diplomat, he took both," he jokes.

"Hmm. Smooth like his father," I say as Rook puffs out his chest. Our daughter opens her eyes but hers are just like Rook's. Well at least my son chose to represent me a little. He does have my brown hair and our daughter has lighter brown hair like Rook's. They are the best of both of us. "We need to name them."

Rook takes our daughter in his arms. "I want to name her Luna."

"I like it. Why Luna?"

"You are my sun and she is my moon."

And just like that, my heart is melting again. This man and his words. He can't be real.

"It's only fair since I named our daughter, you name our son."

I look down at the mismatched eyes and smile. It's almost like he said his name in my head. "Ashton."

"Shit Sunrise, that's beautiful. Ashton and Luna. I love it." He places a soft kiss on Luna's forehead.

A light knock on the door breaks our moment. Philip and Frances peek their heads in.

"Come in," I say as they both walk towards us. Frances is crying and Philip is standing next to Rook, looking at his new granddaughter.

"May I?" he asks Rook.

Rook nods his head and places her in his arms. "Grandpa meet your granddaughter Luna Rochelle Raines."

My eyes immediately go to his. Rochelle was my mother's name. The tears gather in my eyes as he winks at me. Frances looks over my shoulder staring at my son.

"His eyes are incredible," she says.

I hold him up to her as she takes him. "And this is Ashton Philip Raines."

Philip jerks his head towards me and smiles. I can see tears forming in his eyes as he just nods at me and walks over to Frances. Both fussing over their grandchildren.

Rook sits next to me and wraps his arm around me. A few minutes later, Bishop and Tristan come in. Bishop has M. Rae and brings her closer to the babies who are now sleeping in their bassinettes. "Look at your cousins Maggie," she coos at the babies. She then looks at Rook. "You always have to one up me, don't your bro?" she teases.

Rook brushes his knuckles against his chest. "Always Bishy."

I look at my new family and smile. Who would have thought a drunken encounter in Cancun would lead to so much happiness?

I walk over to Rook and place my arm around his waist and hold him to me.

"You good, Sunrise?" he asks me, placing a kiss on my forehead.

"Never better," I say as I pull him in for a kiss. "I can't wait to take our babies home and start the new chapter in our lives, Daddy," I say with a wink.

I hear him give a deep growl in my ear, with a promise for later.
