The full moon hung like a giant pearl over Beacon's verdant lights. In the room of Team RWBY, the door creaked open, revealing Weiss' silhouette against the hallway's glow. Blake slept soundly under the covers, Aebelle snored peacefully in her personal bed, and Yang lay sprawled across hers, snoring like a miniature engine. As Weiss lifted the blanket of Ruby's tent, she found the occupant with her head resting on open notes, a pencil clutched in her hand, and books scattered everywhere.
Seeing Ruby's dedication, a flicker of something akin to admiration crossed Weiss' features. She cleared her throat, gently shaking the girl awake. Ruby blinked, taking a second to regain consciousness before flailing in surprise.
"Weiss! I-I was studying, and then I fell asleep! I'm sorry..."
Weiss placed a hand over Ruby's mouth, putting a finger to her own lips. "Shhh," she mouthed, conveying the need for quiet. Her gaze fell on an empty Beacon coffee mug near Ruby's pillow.
"How do you take your coffee?" she asked, barely above a whisper.
"I... I don't..." Ruby replied, her voice a sleepy murmur.
"Answer the question!" Weiss said, a hint of irritation creeping into her tone.
"Uhh, cream and five sugars!" Ruby mumbled, her eyes struggling to stay open.
Weiss sighed, "Don't move." She ducked under her bed, reappearing a moment later with a fresh cup of coffee. "Here."
"Um... Thanks, Weiss." Ruby took the cup gratefully.
Weiss smiled, her expression softening. "Ruby, I think you have what it takes to be a good leader." Ruby smiled back, her eyes sparkling with appreciation. "Just know that I am going to be the best teammate you'll ever have!" Their smiles met, a silent understanding passing between them. "Good luck studying!" Weiss ducked under her bed again.
She resurfaced, pointing to one of Ruby's papers. "That's wrong, by the way." She disappeared under the covers once more, her voice echoing from the doorway. "Hey, Ruby?"
"Uh-huh?" Ruby mumbled, her eyes glued to her notes.
"I always wanted bunk beds as a kid," Weiss said, her voice a soft murmur. She closed the door, leaving Ruby alone with her studies and a smile on her face.
Ruby, grinning at the unseen progress with her friend, went back to her notes.
Jaune's POV
The spotlight felt like a burning iron on my skin, every eye in the auditorium focused on my pathetic struggle. Cardin's laughter echoed in the silence, a cruel symphony to my defeat.
He was right, I was tired. My Aura was flickering like a dying ember, and my body screamed in protest with every movement. I forced myself forward, a desperate lunge with Crocea Mors, but Cardin just grinned and danced away.
