The night had been long, but I seemed to have slept well. I woke up feeling like I had just slept on a giant cloud. I hadn't had that kind of comfort probably since before I died. Stretching out of bed I felt so relaxed and.... comfortable.....and.........IN MY BOSSES PENTHOUSE! I somehow had forgotten that. I looked around to see that I wasn't in my apartment and remembered the night we had. The events started flickering through my mind. I'm surprised my head wasn't hurting. We had a lot to drink. Vox invited me to stay the night in his guest room. Everything looked expensive and I was nowhere near prepared to spend a night here, but there I was. Not even the pajamas I was wearing were mine. There was a digital clock on the wall. 7:30. Still early, but I was used to that by now. I got out of bed and went into the dresser. There was a royal blue robe inside. I slipped it on and admired the fleece on the inside. It was very soft. I carefully walked out of the guest room to see if Vox was awake. The floor was cold, but I made my way around to find that the dining room and kitchen were empty. Vox must still be asleep. I guess I don't really get to the tower until about 11. I wonder how long it takes Vox to get ready for the day? It didn't matter. I was just grateful that he let me stay here. Thanking him wouldn't have been enough. He deserves something special. I went back to the guest room and checked the clock. Yeah. I had just enough time to grab a cab, get home, change for work, grab some groceries, and make Vox a nice breakfast. It was the least I could do for all he's done for me. I gathered my things, put my heels on, and checked my phone, but stopped just before getting in the elevator. I can't go down there. All of my coworkers. Everyone will see that I'm wearing pajamas. They'll wonder. They'll make up stories. And if Val happens to be down in the lobby we'll......I should just do his work for him. I'll be a laughing stock if I go through the lobby like this. No. The garage! Yeah just below the lobby was the garage level. No one ever really parked down there. It was more for the Vee's vehicles. Yes, that's perfect then I can just walk out of the garage and hail a cab. It was brilliant. I got in the elevator and pushed the button to the garage level. Once I made it down to the garage I walked out. Each heal click made and echo through the garage, but at least I knew there was no one here-
"Hey, doll face!"
I froze in fear. My last heal click echoed for a while before I brought myself to look across the garage at who could've been calling me. A bit scared I slowly turned to see a figure at the far end of the garage. It was Jack. He was waving at me from Vox's limo that was parked against the wall. Letting out a sigh of relief I walked over to him.
"Hey there little lady."
"Heh, good morning Jack."
"I didn't take ya home last night. Since when did you start spending ya nights here?"
I desperately wanted to the subject to change. I didn't want to explain myself to as many of my coworkers as possible.
"Who are you? My dad?"
He put his hands up.
"Alright, guess it ain't my business to ask to many questions. Do ya happen to need a ride home at all?"
I thought about it for a moment. I didn't want to pry, but it was kind of Jack's job to drive me around. And it would certainly save me the taxi fees.
"I'd love that, Jack."
"Alright. Hop in."
We made it back to my apartment building and I quickly ran inside and changed. The outfit I had worn the day before was only to get on Carmilla's good side. I don't think I'd ever wear this casually, but I don't think Velvette would want it back. I threw it on my bed and put on a nice new outfit before putting my hair up. I sprayed my face with a salt water spray before heading back down to the limo. I then asked Jack to take me to a near by grocery store so that I could shop around real quick.By the time we got back to the tower it was about 9:00 plenty of time to cook some breakfast. Because it was still early I didn't bother going through the lobby. I went back up the elevator from the garage level. Looking around Vox's penthouse again, it was empty. He was still asleep, I hoped at least. Then maybe I could surprise him. I gently set the ingredients on the counter in Vox's fancy kitchen and got to work. I had to familiarize myself with everything. Opening several cabinets to find pans and bowls trying not to make too much noise. I was trying to surprise Vox. Not upset him by waking him up. I started by cutting up the vegetables and fruit. Then started searing some bacon.
