Panic

Do I know what I'm doing yet? It's been a crazy last couple of days. What if I do end up moving in? What will that mean for us? Are we official? We can't be, right? Neither of us have popped the question, but even if we did.....Vox is publicly with Valentino. And dropping him is pretty much out of the question. I can't move in if it's unofficial.....but I guess I could just say I moved in because I work there? I dunno. This all feels so weird. The secrecy is a pain in the ass. I know it's not just a fling. Vox expressed his intent with me, but it can't be official right? Not till Val is out of the picture. I shook my head as I loaded the last of my essentials into the bin. I wonder why Velvette is being so helpful too. She doesn't seem like the type. Does she want to be friends or something? I grabbed my bin and locked the door behind me. I wasn't sure when I'd be back but I think I grabbed enough to last me a while. I got back in the limo and headed back to V Tower. The fact that Vox was letting me do all this on the clock as well was nice too, but I guess he's a little biased. I giggled to myself. Sleeping with your boss has perks. I made it back up to Vox's penthouse and put my things in the guest room for now. It was lunchtime and Vox was usually in his office at this time. What if I bring him lunch? Another perk of Vox being my boss: I know what he likes to eat. He usually gets a sandwich from the food court in the lobby, but today I thought I'd make him one myself. I prepared everything in his penthouse before heading down to greet him in his office for lunch. I walked in to see him hard at work at his desk.
"Hey, I brought you lunch!" I said.
He looked up at me in awe.
"That was nice of you."
"It's just your usual."
"Roast beef on white with mayo. No tomatoes no crust?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
I nodded. He grinned. I set the plate on his desk. He stared at it a bit confused, but picked up half of the sandwich to take a bite.
"Wait, this isn't the food court sandwich." Vox spoke with a mouth full of food. "Did you make this?"
"Do you like it?" I asked nervously.
His face filled with delight as he took another bite of the sandwich.
"It's amazing y/n! You didn't have to do that."
"I know, but-" I scratched the back of my head. "I.....was bored and wanted to do something nice for you."
Vox finished chewing to say something and set down the rest of the sandwich.
"Well, great minds think alike." He reached below his desk and pulled out a small bouquet of black roses.
I covered my mouth in shock. I took them from him and smiled widely.
"These only grow in Pride Park! They are absolutely gorgeous Vox, thankyou!"
"Don't thank me." He said a bit sad. He clasped his hands and pressed them over his mouth, feeling guilty run through him. "If I had known Val was going to be there I-I...... I'm sorry y/n."
I looked at him somberly and shook my head quickly walking around the desk to comfort him.
"I already told you it wasn't your fault Vox. I can try to avoid him like the plague, but we unfortunately work in the same building and I guess live in the same building now too."
He perked up a little and looked up at me.
"Are you moving in?" Vox asked with hope in his voice.
I leaned back on my heels.
".......not.....officially. I still need a bit of time. I think we need to talk about long term plans."
"Of course."
I took Vox's hand.
"You're such a sweet guy Vox. I love spending time with you and I'd love to move in someday, but I'd also like to get to know you a little more."
Vox looked down a little anxious.
"I don't think you'd find anything about me interesting."
"You're the most passionate guy I've ever met. I'd love to learn more about your interests at least and you hardly know much about me."
He gave off a soft smile and took both my hands.
"Feel free to share whatever you'd like about yourself. Maybe tonight we could talk a bit more over dinner?"
Was he asking me out on a date?
"Really? Like you want to go on a date?"
"Oh god, no! I can't be in public two seconds without the media sticking cameras in my face. Plus this little exchange is......too personal don't you think? I'd like to have dinner with you in the Penthouse tonight....i-if you'd like?" He asked.
"I'd love that, Vox."
"Great! I guess I'll see you tonight."
"Enjoy your sandwich." I said smiling.
I leaned over  to kiss him, but then heard the door to his office open suddenly. We stopped and quickly turned around to see who was coming in. Velvette walked in. We both took a sigh of relief. She looked upset. Her heels clicked against the floor angrily as she walked closer.
"You brick headed bastard! What did you do?!" She said furiously.
"The hell are you on about Velvette?"
She showed us her phone.
"Your views! They're going down! Guess who's top of the charts now?!"
We both started in shock. I quickly pulled out my phone to check. I had several notifications indicating the change in viewership.
"She-she's right Vox. Someone passed you." I said showing my phone to him.
He was in complete shock. I read the report further and stared at it confused.
"Who's.....Alastor?"
Vox was frozen in fear. Nothing but his hands were shaking all of a sudden. I stared at him a bit concerned. I'd never seen him this surprised.
"Vox? Are you ok?!"
"You don't know." Velvette began. I turned to face her. "You never told her about Alastor did you?"
I shook my head. I had no clue what she was talking about.
"He's known as the radio demon. He was Vox's last assistant several years ago. Until he tried to secretly surpass us in listeners by creating his own radio podcast and left even after we offered him a position on our team. Killed a lot of overlords along the way. We thought he was gone for good until just recently." She explained.
I was stunned, but looking over at Vox he seemed more stunned than I was. He started breathing rapidly.
"Vox?"
He grabbed his screen, stared down towards the floor and started hyperventilating. I quickly ran behind the desk.
"Vox!"
"That.......ancient.......relic.....of a......godamn.......red.....prick!!!!! H-how the.....fuck?!!" Vox breath was shaky.
"Hey hey, take a breath!" I exclaimed trying to calm him down. Fear began to surface on his screen.
"I-I can't breathe!" He said gasping for air.
"Vox! Please just relax! Take a deep breath! You're gonna pass out if you don't stop!"
"I-I can't!"
"Vox, hey just......look at me. Deep breaths. In......and out......" I grabbed his screen and forced him to look up at me.
"But...what about-"
"Shhhh. Just relax. In.......and out......"
He started to take deeper less shakier breaths and synced up with me.
"You're ok Vox. I'm here."
I grabbed a cup of water and handed it to him. He was a bit speachless for a moment, then took a deep breath through the nose and out. I went in and gently kissed him. I looked up at Velvette and she just stared at us in shock.
"You really do love her, ey Vox?" She said with a hand to her hip.
He took a sip of the water and shook off the comment. I helped him to stand up a bit.
"So, do we have a plan?" Velvette asked.
I thought for a moment.
"I say we just proceed as normal. Continue running the shows. Graphs like this always fluctuate. If we panic it will just make us look weak, and desperate, and we'll lose even more views. This week it may be Alastor, but next week it could be us. I'd assume he doesn't even have the technology we have. He can't be on top forever. Plus the only reason I'd assume anyone would have an interest in this guy is because he's been gone for so long right? Eventually everyone will just forget about him since he's only a one trick kind of guy. At least that's what it sounds like if his only source of media is radio shows." I said.
"Not a bad idea." Vel said.
"It's probably the best we got." Vox agreed, giving me a small grin. "That asshole can't be on top forever!"
"He better not. We're counting on you Vox." Velvette said storming out of the room.
"Phew. Are you ok?" I asked Vox.
"Better now." He said giving me a little nod. "Thanks for......calming me down."
"This Alastor guy really gets to you doesn't he?"
"You have no idea."
"Just......forget about him, ok? It doesn't matter right now. Do you still want your sandwich?"
"Um, I should probably have it later. Though it is really good."
I giggled and kissed his screen.
"Anything else you need before I clock out for the day?"
"You're.....leaving?"
"Um.....yeah I was just gonna wait for you upstairs."
He took my hand and looked up at me with desperate eyes.
"Will you just.....stay? Stay here a little longer.....please? I.....I don't want to be alone right now." Vox said shakily.
His hand shaking a bit in mine. I held it tighter and it stopped.
"Of course Vox. I'm here for you." I said taking a seat next to him at the desk.
He sighed in relief and continued doing some work at his desk.
