Alicia
3 years later

Three years had flown by, and yet, standing in the rarefied air of this moment, it felt as if time had been suspended just for us. Our graduation had come and gone a month ago, a whirlwind of celebrations, congratulations, and looking forward, all woven together with threads of nostalgia. Now, as the late evening sky melted into a canvas of blues and purples, my heart was alight with excitement for what lay ahead. After graduation, I moved to New York City with Vaughn, living in his lavish penthouse.

Vaughn had always known how to make every moment special, but this night felt distinctly different. After attending the premiere of the movie I had poured my heart into, he'd taken my hand, navigating us away from the blinding lights and into the cozy embrace of the night. The stars dotted the sky like scattered diamonds, and the gentle hum of the city lingered in the background—a reminder of all the opportunities before us.

He led me through a pathway in the park, where cherry blossom trees were just starting to bloom, their petals drifting lazily in the breeze. Each step we took felt meaningful, each glance shared hinting at the depth of our past and the richness of our future. I felt a shiver of anticipation ripple through me, an instinct that something monumental was about to unfold.

"Vaughn, where are we going?" I asked, my voice playful yet earnest as I took in the sights around me.

He merely smiled, that secretive smile that always hinted at mischief and charm rolled into one. "You'll see," he replied, his tone playful yet pointedly serious in a way that made my heart skip.

We found ourselves at a secluded spot beside the glowing lake, the water reflecting the stars as if it were a mirror to the universe. An old wooden dock jutted out over the water, a perfect place to soak in the tranquility and magic of the night. I looked at Vaughn, his silhouette illuminated by the soft phosphorescence of the water, and I felt the warmth of love encompassing me, a feeling I had come to cherish more than anything else in the world.

"Here we are," he said, his voice low as he gestured to the serene surroundings. "Just us."

"I love it," I whispered, grinning as I leaned against him, resting my head on his shoulder. It was peaceful—the soft lapping of the water against the dock, the cool breeze, and the electrifying energy between us made it feel as if we were the only two souls in existence.

As we stood there, soaking in the beauty, I felt a flutter of uncertainty in the pit of my stomach. There was something different about his posture, like he was holding back something monumental I couldn't quite place.

He took a deep breath, and I could sense the shift in the air, the stillness infused with anticipation. "Kukolka," he started, his voice suddenly serious, "over the past years, you've become my everything. You've seen the depths of my soul, and with you, I've found joy, laughter, and a love I didn't think was possible."

I turned to face him fully now, my heart racing in response to the intensity in his eyes. He continued, "You deserve all the happiness in the world, and I want nothing more than to spend my life making that a reality for you."

My breath caught in my throat, the realization washing over me like a tidal wave. Vaughn lowered himself onto one knee and produced a small velvet box from his jacket pocket. My heart thundered as he opened it, revealing a stunning ring that sparkled in the moonlight, far more dazzling than any star overhead.

"Alicia, will you marry me?" he asked, his voice steady yet filled with a raw, heartfelt vulnerability that brought tears to my eyes.

Every fear and insecurity faded away in that moment, replaced by sheer bliss and certainty. I felt all the magic, hope, and dreams that had danced between us over the years swirl around me. How could I possibly refuse the love of a man who had cradled my heart so lovingly and fiercely?

"Yes! Yes, of course, I will!" I gasped, my voice thick with emotion.

Vaughn slid the ring onto my finger, and it felt like the final piece of a beautiful puzzle, fitting perfectly into place. He rose and enveloped me in that embrace I had come to call home, whispering sweet affirmations into my ear while our laughter echoed into the night.

Standing there, I looked up at him, the man who had transformed my life and filled it with possibility. The shadows that once haunted us had transformed into a vibrant tapestry of dreams waiting to be realized. As we pulled back from our embrace, I realized that this was just the beginning—a new chapter awaiting to be written in our love story, one heartwarming page at a time.

Hand in hand, amidst the blooming cherry blossoms and the shimmering stars, I felt undeniably blessed. We had conquered the pain of the past, faced our fears, and chosen love time and time again. Now, we were ready to forge a future together—a future filled with laughter, adventures, and every little moment that made life worthwhile. Forever united, no longer just partners, but now bound by the promise of forever in each other's hearts.
