Kamorea/Kk
After asking Angel out, I spent the rest of the day in a daze, trying to focus on anything but what was coming later. But that was damn near impossible. I even caught Paige side-eyeing me during practice, probably wondering why I wasn’t clowning like usual. Whatever, she’ll figure it out soon enough.
When we got back to the dorm, I realized I had no idea what to wear. I mean, it’s just dinner, right? But it’s with Angel, so it’s gotta be right. I threw on some grey cargo pant and a simple, but not to simple, black hoodie. Not too fancy, not too casual. Just enough to say, “I made an effort,” but not, “I’m trying too hard.”
As I finished getting ready, I could hear Angel moving around in her room. It’s weird—we’ve been roommates for a while now, but today, everything felt different. More intense.
I was just about to knock on her door when it opened, and there she was, looking straight fire in a pair of mom jeans and a fitted crop top, with green sandals with a purse to match. I was speechless for a second, just staring like a fool.
Fit check:

“You good, Kk?” she asked with that signature smirk, probably noticing the way I was gawking at her.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m good,” I managed to say, finally getting my act together. “You ready to go?”
“Ready when you are,” she replied, grabbing her phone and slipping it into her back pocket.
We headed out, the walk to the restaurant filled with the usual banter. I was grateful for it, honestly. It made things feel normal, even though there was nothing normal about the way my heart was pounding.
We ended up at this chill spot near campus that wasn’t too crowded. Just perfect for a low-key vibe. I held the door open for her, and she gave me a little smile as she walked in. Points for me, I guess.
We grabbed a booth near the back, and after ordering, I realized I had no idea how to start this conversation. I mean, I wanted to get to know her better—like, really know her—but where do you even start with that?
“So,” she started, saving me from my thoughts, “what made you decide to ask me out tonight?”
I wasn’t expecting that question to come so quick, but I wasn’t about to dodge it. “I dunno, just felt like the right time, I guess. We’ve been spending all this time together, and I wanted to see if... ya know, if there could be more.”
She nodded, a thoughtful look crossing her face. “Yeah, I get that. I’ve been thinking the same thing, honestly. It’s kinda crazy how close we’ve gotten.”
Hearing that sent a wave of relief through me. “Yeah, it is. But in a good way.”
We talked a lot more after that—about basketball, majorette, classes, life after college, and even some random stuff like favorite movies and pet peeves. It was easy, like we’d been doing this for years. I liked that she wasn’t trying to put up a front or act different. She was just herself, and that was more than enough.
After we finished eating, we decided to take a walk around campus before heading back to the dorm. The night air was cool, and the campus was quiet, just a few students here and there. I kept sneaking glances at her, still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this was happening.
As we walked, our hands brushed a few times, and I swear I could feel electricity each time. Finally, I just went for it and took her hand. She didn’t pull away, just squeezed mine lightly, and that was all I needed to know this was real.
When we got back to the dorm, it was late, but neither of us seemed ready to call it a night. We hung out in the common area for a bit, just talking and laughing about the random stuff that had happened earlier. It felt good, comfortable, but with this new energy between us.
Eventually, we both started getting sleepy, but there was this unspoken tension, like something was still left hanging. I wasn’t about to let the night end without doing something about it.
“Angel,” I said, looking over at her as we sat on the couch. “I had a good time tonight. I’m glad we did this.”
“Me too,” she replied, her voice soft. “It was fun. We should do it again.”
“Definitely,” I agreed, feeling bold enough to lean in closer. “But, uh... before we call it a night, there’s one more thing I wanna do.”
She raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk tugging at her lips. “Oh yeah? What’s that?”
I didn’t answer with words. Instead, I closed the distance between us and kissed her. It was soft at first, just testing the waters, but when she kissed me back, it was like everything else faded away. It was just me and her in that moment.
When we finally pulled away, we were both smiling like idiots. “So... does that mean you like me?” I teased, trying to play it cool even though my heart was doing backflips.
“Maybe,” she replied, still smiling. “You’ll just have to keep asking me out to find out.”
“I think I can handle that,” I said, grinning.
And with that, we called it a night, each of us heading to our own rooms. But I knew, without a doubt, that things between us had changed—definitely for the better.
