 Race AgainstTime

Lin's POV

Tenzin arrived at the police station with a dramatic entrance, his cloak billowing behind him as he made his way straight to me. I was in the midst of preparing the intervention team, my mind racing with the logistics of the mission.

"What did you find?" he asked urgently, his voice sharp.

I turned to face him, my expression grim. "The healer. I believe he was there to keep Y/n asleep, to make it easier to kidnap her without a struggle."

Tenzin's brow furrowed in confusion. "And why do you think that?"

"Because that morning, she was hit by an ice spike..."

His eyes widened in shock. "She was hit by an ice spike?!"

I rolled my eyes slightly at his reaction, though the situation was far from humorous. "Yes. At first, I didn't think much of it, but then I realized that all the missing people had similar encounters before they disappeared. It's all linked to the technological device they were after."

Tenzin nodded slowly, absorbing the information. "And I guess you already have a location?"

A small, proud smile tugged at my lips. "I'm not the Chief of Police for nothing, Tenzin."

"I know, I know. But how?"

"It was straightforward enough," I explained. "The day we were attacked, I managed to note the vehicle's registration number and trace it. The city's cameras followed the car to a location in the mountains. We believe there's a hidden road leading into a secret base beneath the mountain."

Tenzin looked at me with a mixture of surprise and admiration. "All of that in just two days?"

I shrugged, avoiding his gaze. "The life of someone I care about is at stake."

We embarked on the mission, driving in a police vehicle for half an hour, the tension thick in the air. During the ride, Tenzin and I discussed our plan of attack, mapping out how we would extract any prisoners if my deductions were correct. But beneath it all, I could only think of Y/n. I silently prayed that she was still alive.

As soon as the car stopped, we leapt out and made our way toward the hidden entrance. Two of my metalbenders pried open the concealed door in the mountainside, and we rushed inside, weapons drawn and ready for anything.

To our surprise, an entire army of soldiers in dark brown armor awaited us. Something about them was immediately off—each soldier wore a helmet that completely covered their face, save for two eerie green holes that allowed them to see. The sight was unsettling, but there was no time to dwell on it. The battle began in an instant, the soldiers bending elements as they attacked.

I fought my way through the chaos, launching myself into the air with metalbending while hurling rocks at the enemies below. Tenzin was close behind, using airbending to send opponents flying out of our path.

"Watch out!" Tenzin shouted, sending a powerful gust of wind to knock aside an opponent who had been closing in on me. But two more soldiers stepped into our way, undeterred.

I used my metal cables to whip them aside, creating an opening for us to continue. We burst through a door that led into a corridor, moving quickly toward what seemed to be a control room filled with devices and computers.

After taking down the soldiers guarding the room, we approached a large desk littered with papers and a single ominous button.

"Lin, look at this," Tenzin called, drawing my attention to the desk. Among the scattered documents was a title that sent a chill down my spine: 'The Art of Manipulation.' Beneath the button was a simple yet terrifying label: 'Stop engines.'
