A Sketch of Us
The next morning, Lin welcomed me into her office with a warm smile.
"I'm glad you're staying with me today. Here, take a seat," she said, moving a comfy chair from the corner closer to her desk.
As I settled into the chair, I couldn't shake the memories of that day—the broken window, the chaos. My mind started to drift, the fear creeping back in, but I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder.
"You'll be okay?" Lin asked, concern clear in her eyes.
I nodded. "Yes. Besides, with you here, there's nothing to fear."
She smiled at that, reassured, and returned to her desk to work. Left to my own devices, I pulled out a sketchbook and pen I had brought with me. As I looked around for something to draw, my gaze settled on the most beautiful sight I'd ever seen—Lin.
The sunlight framed her perfectly, highlighting the strong yet graceful lines of her body, while shadows added depth to her features. It was like a living masterpiece. I couldn't resist. I began sketching her, starting with the outline of her head, then moving on to her shoulders, capturing her in all her quiet intensity.
Almost an hour passed, and I found myself smiling at the progress I'd made. Lin's likeness on the paper was coming to life. I didn't even notice her eyes on me until I looked up and saw her watching with curiosity. Just then, there was a knock on the door, and I jumped slightly, dropping my pen.
Lin went to open the door, and a voice filled the room.
"Well, well, Chief!"
I froze, recognizing something unsettling in that voice.
"Andreas?" Lin sounded perplexed.
My eyes shot to the doorway. A tall man with short brown hair and a deep red jacket stood there. He exuded elegance and confidence, but there was something...off about him. Something malicious simmering beneath the charm.
"And who's this lovely lady?" Andreas asked, his gaze sliding toward me in a way that made my skin crawl.
"This is Y/n, my partner," Lin stated firmly, stepping closer to me as she crossed her arms.
Andreas smirked, turning back to her. "Ah, I see you're wearing the new uniforms I designed! I'm glad they suit you. I was worried they'd be too heavy."
Lin sighed, clearly unimpressed. "I was worried too, but they're fine."
His eyes flicked toward me again, and I felt a wave of unease. There was something predatory in the way he looked at me, and it made my heart race. Lin seemed to sense it, moving even closer, her body almost shielding mine as she glared at him with narrowed eyes.
"Well," Andreas said, clasping his hands together, "I'll leave you to your work, Chief. Lots to do, I'm sure."
"Yes, lots," Lin replied, her voice cold.
Before he left, Andreas turned to me, his eyes gleaming as he said, "Looking forward to seeing you again, sweet little dove."
I forced a tight smile, hoping he'd take the hint. Lin closed the door behind him, her face a mixture of disgust and confusion.
"What a jackass," she muttered.
"Yeah..." I whispered, still shaken. "I assume he's the famous investor?"
She nodded, clearly displeased. "Unfortunately, yes."
"I don't like him. I know he made your uniforms, but...something about him makes me uncomfortable," I admitted.
Lin chuckled softly, her eyes warm. "Don't worry, I don't like him either."
I smiled, feeling a bit of the tension ease. "Thanks for blocking him when he got too close."
"Of course. I saw how he was making you feel. Just know, I'll always be here to protect you."
Her words brought me a deep sense of relief. I exhaled, letting the unsettling encounter fade into the background. I returned to my sketch, focusing on the details. But before long, a shadow fell over my page.
I looked up to see Lin standing over me, her eyes gleaming with curiosity.
"What are you drawing?" she asked, trying to sneak a peek.
"Nothing!" I said quickly, clutching the sketchbook to my chest.
She laughed, bending down in front of me, a playful smirk on her lips. "You know, even if it's something naughty, you can show me... I mean, after the other night, what could you possibly be hiding from me?"
I gasped, pouting a little before replying with mock confidence, "I wouldn't call it naughty, more like...we were just too hot."
Lin threw her head back, laughing, her smile lighting up the room. "You're such a gorgeous mess," she teased, leaning in to kiss me.
I was about to melt into the kiss when, in one swift motion, she snatched the sketchbook from my hands and darted away.
"Hey!" I cried, outraged. "That's unfair!"
She stopped mid-step, staring down at the drawing. Her expression softened, and when she turned to face me, surprise and something deeper flickered in her eyes.
"That's...that's me," she murmured, her voice hushed. "You drew me. It's...so beautiful."
Her fingers hovered over the page, almost reverent, as if the drawing was something fragile. I stood and walked over to her, feeling a little shy.
"Do you like it?" I asked quietly.
"I love it," she said, wrapping one arm around my waist and pulling me close. She kissed the top of my head before whispering, "Nobody's ever drawn me before...thank you, Y/n. This means so much to me."
I hugged her back, a grin spreading across my face at her sweet reaction. "I'm really happy you like it."
