"Safar khubsurat hai manzil se bhi"
SIX YEARS AGO.
THIRD PERSON'S POV
No, for some reason she knows it won't end well.
Kavya looks out of the car window, eyeing the rain beat down incessantly. She veers around to the driver, a man in his early thirties. "Should we stop somewhere?" she asks, her voice slightly raised to be heard over the sound of the raindrops pelting the car.
The weather is terrible and Kavya doesn't feel good about it. She has always been uncomfortable with this type of weather, but tonight it seems worse than ever.
The driver glances at Kavya in the rearview mirror, noticing her visible discomfort with the weather. He responds, "Sir will be worried if we stop in the middle of nowhere," his eyes staying fixed on the road. "Wait, I'll take a faster route." His words reassure her slightly, but the growing anxiety in her gut is difficult to ignore.
The smaller road is bumpy and uneven, the car lurching up and down as the tires struggle to navigate the poor terrain. The rain continues to fall heavily, the wipers working overtime to clear the windshield, which is quickly becoming covered in a thin film of water.
The road is poorly lit, and the darkness outside seems almost menacing, the shadows of trees swirling along the edges of the path.
After a few minutes, the car reaches a better road, the dirt and bumps gradually replaced by a smoother surface. However, the darkness seems to have intensified, the headlights barely penetrating the thick curtain of rain. There are no streetlights, and the only light visible is the occasional flash of lightning offering a little light before plunging the surroundings back into darkness once more.
Kavya's voice breaks the silence, her words coming out a little shaky. "Faster," she says, a bit of fear in her voice. "Please go faster." She clings tightly to the edge of her seat, the isolation and darkness outside only increasing her feelings of unease.
"I can't see anything," the driver says, "I can't drive any faster than this in these conditions." He slows down a little as another flash of lightning illuminates the road, highlighting how treacherous the weather is.
The sudden ringing of her phone jolts Kavya out of her anxious thoughts. She scrambles for a moment in her bag before finally retrieving her phone.
As she sees her husband's name on the screen, a relief floods through her. She takes a deep breath and answers the call.
"Hello?"
"Kavya, where are you?" His voice comes through the line, "It's pouring outside, and you should have been here hours ago."
Kavya's voice trembles slightly as she speaks into the phone. "I'm scared, Raj," she admits. "We're still on our way to the hotel, and the weather is awful. I just want to get there safely." Her fingers clutch tightly to the phone as she waits for his reply.
