The wedding day had finally arrived, and Dua sat in front of the mirror, her bridal dress shimmering in the soft glow of the lights. The intricate embroidery of gold and red threads adorned her outfit, while her veil cascaded down her back.
She looked every bit the perfect bride, but her eyes betrayed the turmoil within. Her heart was a storm of conflicting emotions—doubt, fear, and a flicker of hope. As she applied the last touch of makeup, memories began to flood her mind, pulling her into a swirl of thoughts from days past.
Flashback
The grand Malik estate, with its sprawling gardens and tall arches, was bathed in the warmth of the setting sun, casting a golden glow over the mansion. It had been weeks since their grandfather's passing, and Wajdan and Dua found themselves once more facing each other in the familiar grand foyer. Though they had shared a lifetime of memories, there was a distance between them now—a gap that years of misunderstandings had widened.
Amma, their grandmother, sat with an air of quiet authority in the living room. Her gaze was fixed on the two of them. "Wajdan, Dua, please sit," she said in a calm yet determined voice. "We have something important to discuss."
Wajdan, in his late twenties and already a successful businessman, sat down reluctantly, his jaw tightening. Dua followed suit, sitting on the other end of the plush sofa. Her long dark hair framed her face, but she avoided meeting Wajdan's eyes.
Amma's voice broke the uneasy silence. "Your grandfather had one final wish. He wanted to see you two married. He always believed you were meant for each other, despite the differences and the years that have passed."
Wajdan's brow furrowed, his tone guarded. "Amma, we've already discussed this. We can't just get married because of a promise made years ago."
But Amma's expression was resolute. "It wasn't just a promise, Wajdan. It was your grandfather's last wish, and it is written in his will. If the two of you do not marry within a month of his passing, the estate and family business will be divided among the extended family expect you. You will lose everything you've worked for throughout the years."
Dua felt her breath hitch. She had known about the family's expectations for years, but to be told this was their only choice—marrying Wajdan to keep the family legacy intact—it felt unfair. "Amma," she said softly, "we haven't spoken in years. How can we suddenly be expected to get married?"
Amma's gaze softened, but her voice remained firm. "You grew up together, sharing more than just a home. There was a time when you couldn't imagine life without each other. I know things have changed, but the love is still there. You must look for it again. And I believe Wajdan that no one is better for you than Dua "
Wajdan's eyes flashed with irritation. "This is not a solution. We don't love each other like that, and forcing us into marriage won't make things right."
