Conflict is an inevitable part of life, especially for us young adults navigating friendships, family dynamics, and professional relationships. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to approach conflict in a manner that reflects His love and grace. I've gathered some key ways to handle conflict like Christ, bringing love into action in our daily interactions. Let's look into a few of them!
(1)
Seek Understanding
James 1:19 (ESV): "Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger."
In moments of tension, it's easy to let our emotions flare up. However, Jesus exemplified the importance of listening and understanding before reacting. When we approach conflict with the intent to understand the other person's perspective, we open the door for healing and constructive dialogue. Let's strive to cultivate an attitude of patience and empathy, reflecting on how Christ took the time to listen to others.
(2)
Christ's Forgiveness
Ephesians 4:32 (ESV): "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."
Conflict often arises from misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Instead of holding grudges, we are called to forgive as Christ forgave us. This doesn't mean we brush issues under the rug, but rather, intentionally choosing to let go of resentment and extend grace. Remember, forgiveness is an act of love that can free both parties and create a room for reconciliation.
(3)
Practice Humility
Philippians 2:3 (ESV): "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves."
In the moments of conflict, pride can easily take the forefront. However, Jesus modeled humility throughout His ministry, even washing the feet of His disciples. To handle conflicts like Christ, we must be willing to set aside our ego and approach the situation with a mindset of servitude and humility. This empowers us to genuinely consider another's feelings and concerns.
(4)
Respond with Grace
Colossians 4:6 (ESV): "Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person."
The way we communicate during conflict can either escalate the situation or promote peace. Jesus often responded to challenges with grace and wisdom, even when facing hostility. In our interactions, we should choose words that foster understanding and calmness. Creating an environment where healing can take place. Speak with love and graciousness, allowing God's Spirit to guide your conversations.

Lesson for Us
Navigating conflicts is never easy, but it becomes more manageable when we anchor ourselves in Christ's teachings. I've found that when face with a disagreement, taking a step back and reflecting on how Christ would respond can transform the situation. By seeking to understand, forgiving freely, maintaining humility, and responding with grace, we embody the love that Christ exemplified so well.
Colossians 3:12-14 (ESV): "Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these, put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony."
Take heart, Christian friends! As we practice these principles of love in action, we not only honor God but also enrich our personal relationship with Him as well as others we interact with. Let us strive to reflect Christ in all we do, remembering that love conquers all, and peace is always worth pursuing. Whether it's a small disagreement or a significant conflict, allow the love of Christ to lead the way.
Love & Blessings, Amen! xoxo
