A good day for training.

__"Right this way, Ms. Emmaly," Oak said as he led her over to a supply closet. "I'll go ahead and get you some pokéballs and potions to help start you off."
__Emmaly waited patiently by the door with her pokémon. She watched as the old man started gathering some materials and putting them in her bag. She still felt slightly uncomfortable with him, but she was glad that he was super nice and helpful.
__When Oak was done, he closed up her bag and went to hand it to her. "That should do it. Here's to hoping to catch lots of pokémon on your journey."
__Emmaly tried to keep up her smile as she took her bag back. "It's... not that kind of journey, I'm afraid."
__Before the old man could ask, Gary came walking in and was already annoyed. "Dang it, gramps. Quit doing my job."
__That made Oak smirk. "Start doing it then," he teased. He ignored his grandson, who rolled his eyes as he turned back to Emmaly. "What kind of journey are you taking then?"
__Emmaly decided to open her bag and pull out the crumpled paper before showing the professors the weird symbol. "Have either of you seen this before? I'm looking for the people behind it."
__The two of them examined the picture closely before shaking their heads.
__"Can't say that we have," Gary had said slowly. "Why are you looking for them?"
__Emmaly stifled her sigh as she put it away again. "Well, I'm looking for my brothers. I'm pretty sure they were taken by the people associated with that picture."
__"Really?" Gary exclaimed. "Have you reported this to Officer Jenny?"
__Emmaly shook her head. "I couldn't do an incident report without my parents knowing. Things are kind of complicated with them right now."
__"Now that you're a registered trainer, you can head on over to Veridian City, and you could try asking Officer Jenny for help there. Even if she can't do anything, she can pass your message on and help you on the side."
__"I guess that's a start. Thank you both very much."
__"Straight down the path will lead you to the Pokémart and the Pokémon Center," Oak said promptly. "Be sure you stop by them first before you head down Route One."
__"I will. Thank you again."
__Emmaly and her two pokémon began walking down the path. She decided to visit the Pokémon Center first to have her charmander energized again. She and her riolu had to wait patiently on one of the benches while her charmander was tended to. She had to pull Riolu close to her when other people started staring at him. She understood everyone's excitement, but she really wished everyone would mind their own damn business. Riolu didn't even like other people that much. Though, she supposed that was her fault. She never liked being around so many people. Too many loud noises annoyed her, and she just hated nosy people in general.
__"I've... been meaning to ask," Riolu started as he began stretching his arms above his head. "What are we going to do if we actually find those people?"
__Emmaly took a bit to ponder before shrugging her shoulders. "We won't really know until we find and observe them first." She stopped to glare at an old lady who was giving her a weird look. "Maybe having more pokémon will be better for us if we do have to fight."
__Riolu nodded. "Are you going to catch every wild pokémon you see?"
__"Of course not. We don't have enough money and resources to take care of so many." Emmaly stopped to pull out her Rotom Phone and started looking up how many pokémon trainers usually keep on them for battling and competitions. "Probably six max, so we can afford to catch four more. But I'm not going to just catch the first pokémon I see."
__"Right, you and I have to make sure we choose our next friends carefully," Riolu said proudly. "We need partners who are strong like me."
__Emmaly couldn't help but snicker. "You never properly battled before."
__That made Riolu stand up and started pushing on Emmaly. "I'll show you! Next time you have to battle, send me out! I'll make you proud, Mama!"
__Emmaly grabbed Riolu and laid him across her lap before she started tickling him. "I'm sure you will!"
__Riolu was now laughing while he tried pushing her hands away. "Mama! Stop!"
__"Ms. Emmaly? Your charmander is ready."
__Emmaly stopped tickling Riolu and went to meet with Nurse Joy. She had rolled Charmander out on a cart while the pokémon stood tall and proud. This made Emmaly smile as she went and picked up Charmander. "Hey, Charmander! How are you feeling? Good?"
__Charmander threw his claws up and grinned. "Char, charman char!"
__Emmaly took this moment to thank the nurse before she brought her pokémon over to the Pokémart. She gathered up any medicines and items they could need before they set out onto Route One. The route was a nice little forest with pokémon she had already seen from the park. She was still excited to see them. She watched as Riolu and Charmander charged ahead and tried to play with some of the wild pokémon. Most of them like caterpie and pidgey were scared and ran away. Others like ratatta were more than eager to play. It made her happy to see Riolu playing around with his kind at last.
__"Hey! Can you help me?"
__Emmaly stopped and turned to a short brown haired boy who was crouched down on the ground. She carefully walked over to him and leaned forward. "Are you okay?" She then jumped back when the boy leaped up and pointed at her.
__"Ha! You and I made eye contact!" The boy yelled excitedly. "Now you and I have to battle!"
__Emmaly took a step back, confused, while Riolu and Charmander quickly joined her. "Uh... wha?" This boy had to be a few years younger than her.
__The boy pointed his thumb on his chest and continued to speak excitedly. "Them's the rules! You have to battle me!"
__Emmaly was shaking her head. "You're thinking of an old game. The other person has to consent, and I..."
__"Mama! Mama!" Riolu interrupted while hopping up and down. "Accept it! I wanna battle!"
__Emmaly looked down at her Riolu to object, but she didn't have the heart to after seeing the determined look on his face. Defeated, she sighed and turned back to the boy. "You know what, fine. I accept."
__"Pefect! I can tell you're new, so I'll let you use both of those two against my one beedrill."
__"Sure, sure." Emmaly motioned her pokémon to follow her so they could get in position. She did not feel like battling so soon, but this would be good practice for her and Riolu. "Now, are you sure Vacuum Wave is the only damage move you know?"
__Riolu had to think for a bit. "I mean... I know endure isn't one, and that one move that makes me fast... Agility?"
__Emmaly shook her head. "I'm pretty sure that's Quick Attack. You can't learn Agility without a Technical Machine."
__Riolu's ears bounced as he looked away, feeling embarrassed. "Oh..."
__"You're okay. That's perfect." Emmaly took a deep breath before she gave the boy a thumbs up. "Okay, we're ready!"
__"Heck yeah!" The boy yelled as he threw out his pokéball. From the ball came a large beedrill. The bug type pokémon let out a screech while it clapped its hand drills together.
__Emmaly felt nervous. "All right! Quick Attack!"
__Riolu moved first and ran straight into his opponent. The opposing beedrill was knocked back a few feet, but he managed to stay in the air and braced himself enough to throw Riolu back. Riolu was barely able to catch the ground with one hand before he flipped himself back onto his feet.
__"Use Fury Cutter!"
__The bug pokémon's drills started spinning as it flew straight for Riolu.
__"Dodge and use Vacuum Wave!"
__Riolu was a mere second away from being hit when he dodged. He got his fist ready and shot his Vacuum Wave right at Beedrill's side. The beedrill was knocked over, but he got back up and continued to advance with his Fury Cutter. Riolu was backing away while he tried dodging his drills. He couldn't keep it up, though, and did get hit quite a few times eventually.
__It physically hurt Emmaly to see her Riolu get knocked back into a tree really hard. "Riolu! Are you okay!?"
__Riolu had landed crouched down while he shook his head. "I'm okay!"
__"Now use String Shot!"
__Beedrill had to lift up his head before he shot out a thick, sticky string. Riolu had little time to react as he got wrapped around and flung up into the air.
__"Let go and use Poison Sting!"
__No! Emmaly watched hopelessly as Riolu ended up getting stung.
__Beedrill made sure to keep his distance while Riolu broke out of the sticky string. Riolu was about to move when he winced and started emitting purple particles, signally the afflicted poison.
__"Riolu!" Emmaly called out.
__Her riolu was struggling to stay standing straight up. "I'm... fine! Just a little sick!"
__"Fury Cutter again!"
__"Quick, dodge it!"
__But Riolu couldn't move in time before Beedrill flew in and attacked. The bug pokémon was relentless with his attacks. He kept it up until Riolu finally couldn't take it anymore and ended up collapsing. He tried desperately to get back up, but his snout slammed back down into the dirt.
__"Riolu, no!" Emmaly ran over and knelt down beside him quickly. She carefully grabbed his head and put it on her lap. "You okay?"
__Riolu grunted as he tried to sit back up. "I-I'm fine... let me-"
__Emmaly shook her head. "You're done. Let's sit you down and I'll get you that antidote."
__"Hurry and bring out that charmander!" the boy shouted proudly.
__Emmaly was trying so hard not to glare at that boy while she handed Riolu the antidote. "Take that, okay?" She then got serious as she turned back to the boy. "Okay, Charmander! You're up!"
__"Char-man!" Charmander had jumped out in front of Emmaly and began yelling out excitedly. "Char!"
__"Use String Shot!"
__Beedrill flew in and shot out his sticky string, but Charmander swiftly dodged it.
__"Use Scratch!"
__Charmander had his claws out ready as he attacked the beedrill.
__"Fury Cutter!"
__Both the charmander and beedrill were now blocking each others attacks while trying to find an opening. Eventually, they pushed each other back and stared each other down. Something Emmaly noticed in that moment was when charmander started shouting at the beedrill. She could see flames escaping from his mouth. He definitely learned a new move, and it was perfect timing.
__"All right, let's bring some justice for Riolu!" Emmaly called out to Charmander. That made the fire type pokémon hop up in excitement.
__"Use Poison Sting!"
__Beedrill came flying in with his drills glowing purple.
__"Use Ember!"
__Charmander opened up his jaws real big before he shot out a fireball. The fireball flew straight at Beedrill and collided right at his head. The bug pokémon fell straight to the ground and went limp. He did not even try to get up. This forced the boy to return him back into his pokéball while looking disappointed.
__Emmaly was relieved it was finally over. "Nice going, Charmander!"
__Charmander hopped over to Emmaly happily before he jumped into her arms. "Char! Char!"
__Emmaly then carefully set him down before she looked over at Riolu, who was sitting with his head down. "Are you okay? Should we head back to the Pokémon Center?"
__Riolu shook his head. "I feel healthy again."
__Emmaly had to crouch down and rub the riolu's back. "This was your first battle. Don't let it get you down, sweet pea. We'll have plenty of time to practice. Let's hurry onto Viridian City so we can train at the Pokémon Center there."
