Lily's eyes fluttered open, her vision blurry as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. The familiar sounds of the park and her mother's voice were replaced by an eerie silence and dim lighting. She blinked, her heart beginning to race as she realized she wasn't in the park anymore. The air was musty, the room small and filled with shadows that danced on the walls.

Panic gripped her small body as she sat up on the narrow bed. Where was she? How did she get here? The last thing she remembered was swinging at the park, feeling the rush of wind against her face as she soared higher and higher.

"Mommy?" she called out, her voice trembling. The word echoed back at her, swallowed by the darkness. There was no response, only the quiet hum of something mechanical in the distance.

She swung her legs over the edge of the bed, her feet touching the cold floor. A shiver ran through her, both from the chill and the fear curling in her stomach. She was alone, in a place she didn't recognize, and the only thing she knew for sure was that she wanted to go home.

As she stood, the door creaked open, and a female figure stepped into the room. Lily's breath caught in her throat as she stared at the woman before her. The woman was tall and dressed in dark clothing, her face obscured by a mask that covered everything but her eyes.

"Hello, Lily," she said, muffled and unfamiliar.

Lily took a step back, her small hands clenching into fists.

"Who are you? Where's my mommy?" Her voice was stronger now, laced with the bravery she forced herself to summon.

The woman remained in the doorway, unmoving.

"Your mommy can't be here right now, but don't worry. You're safe with me." The words were meant to be comforting, but there was something off about the way they were spoken—too calm, too rehearsed.

Lily's heart pounded in her chest.

"I want to go home," she insisted, her eyes never leaving the woman.

"In time," the woman replied.

"But for now, you need to stay here. It's safer this way."

Lily didn't believe her. She knew she wasn't safe—she could feel it in the pit of her stomach.

"Why are you wearing that mask?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

The woman tilted their head slightly, as if considering the question.

"It's to protect you, Lily. You don't need to worry about who I am. Just know that I'm here to take care of you."

Lily wasn't convinced. She could see the eyes behind the mask, cold and calculating, watching her every move. She took another step back, her mind racing with the stories her father had told her about what to do if she was ever in trouble. Stay calm. Think. Look for a way out.

The woman moved further into the room, closing the door behind her.

"I brought you something to eat," she said, holding out a small tray with food on it.

"You must be hungry."

Lily's stomach growled at the sight of the food, but she didn't move. She didn't trust the woman—whoever she was, she wasn't there to help her.

"I'm not hungry," she lied, her voice barely above a whisper.

The woman set the tray down on a small table near the bed.

"That's okay. The food will be here when you are." The woman stepped back, giving her space, but her presence was still suffocating.

Lily's eyes darted around the room, looking for anything that might help her. There was a small window high up on the wall, but it was covered with heavy curtains. The door behind the woman was the only other way out, but she was blocking it. She had no way of knowing if it was even locked.

She took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.

"Will I see my mommy soon?" she asked, hoping for any clue that might help her.

The woman hesitated for just a moment, then nodded.

"Yes, Lily. Soon. But for now, you need to be patient."

Lily didn't believe her. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes, but she blinked them back. She couldn't cry—not now, not in front of this person. She needed to be strong, like her daddy always told her.

The woman watched her for a few more moments, then turned to leave.

"I'll be back later," she said, her voice softer now.

"If you need anything, just call out."

Lily didn't respond, watching as the door closed behind the woman with a soft click. As soon as she was gone, she let out a shaky breath and wrapped her arms around herself, trying to stay warm.

She was trapped, alone, and scared, but she knew she had to find a way out. No matter what it took, she would find her way back to her mommy.

But as she lay back down on the bed, her mind raced with a new fear—the masked person knew her name. They knew who she was, and that meant they had planned this. They had taken her for a reason.

And that terrified her more than anything.
