Chapter One

Nia groaned at the sound of her alarm ringing out. She flung her arm out and switched it off with a groan.
"Seriously Nia" Sam groaned beside her.
"I have to get to work" She climbed out of bed and threw a pillow at his stomach making him jump "Get up" He sat up in bed but made no attempt to get up.
"We've slept together a few times now, don't you trust me to lock up when I leave?"
"I don't have time to argue. Plus booty calls don't get a key" She argued as she pulled on clothes for the day.
"I wasn't asking for the key, I was asking to sleep in" He lay back in bed, shutting his eyes once again.
"Didn't you have work in an hour?"
"It's Saturday" Nia laughed silently before she rounded the bed and dropped her lips to his ear.
"It's Monday" He jumped out of bed and started gathering his clothes.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. I don't have any clean clothes-"
"Closet" She reminded him. He rushed over to it and grabbed his spare clothes that Nia had told him to leave there after one of the many times that they had slept together.
"You are amazing. No wonder we sleep together" She laughed at his joke as she tied her hair up in a ponytail.
"Are you nervous?"
"No. Shirley set it all up, I'm good"
"That's not what I mean" She scoffed, moving over to her vanity to start on her makeup.
"I know what you mean"
"So?" She met his eyes in the mirror.
"I'm okay. Promise"
"We've been friends a long time and I know I don't know the full story but you don't have to be strong with me"
"I know. But there's nothing to worry about or be afraid of, I'm fine"
"When you say it, it loses all meaning" He told her, dropping her eyes as he finished dressing.
"Sam?" He met her eyes again "I love you" He smiled.
"Love you too Nia"
"Now hurry up asshole you're going to be late" She teased with a smile.

Nia drove towards the office, it was her first day and she was set to be 20 minutes early but then her phone rang and Leah's name appeared on her screen.
"Hey Le, what's up?"
"Can you pick me up?"
"I'm on my way to work, Leah. What's wrong?"
"I don't know where I am" Nia could tell from her voice that she'd been drinking and who knows what else.
"How fucked up are you?"
"I was supposed to be at work at 7"
"Send me your location. I'm on my way"
"Thanks sis" She heard Lean say before she hung up the phone.
"Damn it Leah. Fuck" Nia cursed hitting her hands against the steering wheel before she turned around and headed towards the location that Leah sent her.
When she got there Leah was sat on the curb, her arms around her knees. When Nia pulled up she stood up and moved to the car, climbing into the passenger seat. She was wearing heels that looked ten inches high, a skirt that was barely there and a blazer that showed her bra underneath.
"Where's your shirt?" Leah shrugged "Did you know this one's name?"
"Nope. Great dick though" Nia sighed heavily "What crawled up your ass?"
"I start my new job today, you know that. And now I'm late, it sets a bad impression" Nia explained, trying not to sound mad but she was failing.
"You owe no one anything-"
"That's a shitty attitude to have and you know it"
"Sorry Mom" Leah sarcastically replied with a roll of her eyes "I saw Sam head into your building which only means one thing. If he can't fuck the anger out of you-"
"Sam's my friend, we don't just fuck"
"But you did last night didn't you?" It was Nia's turn to roll her eyes "I knew it" Nia sighed angrily and pulled the car over.
"Get out" Leah shot her sister a confused look "The bus stop there will take you home. You'll have to walk a block but that's fine considering you made me late for my first day"
"Are you mad at me?"
"Leah, I'm always mad at you" Both women laughed knowing that she didn't mean it.
"I love you sis. Enjoy your first day"
"I love you too" Nia repeated as Leah climbed out of the car "And I'll call Nora and get her to call in sick for you"
"Thanks Mom" She teased once again before she headed over to the bus stop. Nia headed back towards the office, hoping that her new boss wasn't too mad at her.

Nia headed off the elevator and into the squad room.
"Excuse me I'm looking for agent Sadiq" Nia announced to the room.
"I can be her" A charming man with an even more charming smile looked up at her.
"Shut up Wes" Another man ordered "She's in her office"
"Thank you" She headed over to the door and knocked, waiting for an answer from within. The men in the squad room appeared to be no more than ten years older than her and the girl in the corner seemed quiet and not much younger than her.
"Come in" A voice called from inside and Nia pushed open the door, putting a wide smile on her face.
"Agent Sadiq, I'm-"
"Agent Sutton, you're late"
"My sister, I'm sorry about that, I couldn't get out of it"
"What happened? What was worthy of being late on your first day?" Nia paused for a moment, deciding it was worth telling her the truth, she decided that honesty was the right way to go.
"She had a one night stand last night and she wanted me to pick her up. I always do it. I never, not answer her calls, we have a rule about it" The older woman nodded.
"I appreciate the honesty. Let's meet the team"
