The morning after Nia rushed to the hospital to see Leah she was moved to a rehab where only Nia could sign her out.
Nia lay in her bed a week later, talking to Sam as he got ready for work.
"What was the nightmare about this time?" He asked, hearing her sigh on the other end of the phone.
"I didn't have a nightmare"
"Yes you did. You called me and you've been cagey the whole time, so which one was it?" Nia sighed.
"George. Again"
"Is this because of Jade bringing him up?"
"I don't blame her. It just happens when one of us brings it up. I'll be surprised if the other two aren't having nightmares"
"But George was the worst wasn't he? And you took the brunt of it"
"And I would've taken it a thousand times for them"
"I know but-" He sighed deeply "I think you should try therapy again"
"Why?"
"Because you were kidnapped and raped by the worst of humanity and the second someone mentions a name it sends you over the edge. You're all hurting and I get that because I know what you've been through but it doesn't have to all be on you"
"I know and it isn't"
"It is. It was always on you from the minute he took them too" Nia sighed.
"You know what they did to us Sam. Someone had to take the brunt of it"
"So did it always end up being you?"
"Because I could take it" Sam had no argument there "Have a good day. I'll see you tonight?"
"Of course" He assured her. She wouldn't be able to sleep but knowing that Sam was beside her in case someone came for her helped her get a few hours of sleep.Nia was on the way to work when Nora called her cell.
"Hey Nor, what's up? Is Jade okay?"
"Yeah she's fine" Her tone suggested that she was hiding the real reason for her call.
"So what aren't you saying?"
"Jade told her therapist who we are. She- the therapist wants us to go to therapy, it doesn't have to be with her but she wants us to see someone"
"You should do that"
"Leah won't go unless you do"
"I don't need therapy but you three do. I've made peace with my past"
"I know there are things that you won't tell us, things that happened before we got there. You should go"
"Nora you're my sisters and I love you but I take care of you and unless you all quit drinking, taking drugs and sleeping around, you all need real help, not me" With Nora's silence on the other end Nia felt like a jackass "I'm sorry for being a bitch, I had a nightmare last night"
"Because of George?" Nia hummed "So did I"
"He was the worst" She muttered.
"You're my sister Nia, and my greatest protector. And you deserved the chance to be a child too, we all relied on you too much. Please, just go and talk about the things you can tell us. Please" Nia sighed loudly, the sound filling her car.
"Okay"
"I'll send you a list-"
"I'll find one, promise"
"Okay then. Love you"
"Love you too" Nia hung up the phone and dialled a familiar old number.
"Doctor Jameson's office"
"Hi Carla, its Nia. I was wondering if Claire could send me a referral to another therapist?"
"Hi Nia, we've missed you around here. I'll have Claire draft one up" She assured her.
"Thanks Carla" Nia hung up the phone as she pulled into the parking lot at work, and with another heavy sigh she grabbed her bag and headed inside."Morning sunshine" Wesley teased with a smirk as Nia entered the squad room.
"Good morning Wesley, you're in a good mood, did you get laid?"
"Oh yes but I want to know what crawled up your ass and put that sour look on your face"
"I guess I didn't get laid" She teased.
"It looks like you haven't slept" Nia tried to think of an excuse as fast as she could but Elliot walked in nagging his children so their attention went to him instead.
"No Maddy you're not going to a party. Because you're fourteen and with no parents at home I bet they'll be alcohol. My answer is no, now enjoy your day at school. I love-" Elliot grunted, no matter how old she got he would never get used to her attitude.
"Kids can be tough" Nia commented as he sat at his desk.
"Yeah, maybe you should talk to her, you're good with kids"
"I'm good with traumatised kids" He nodded.
"How's your sister by the way?"
"She's better, until she leaves the hospital and runs off to shoot up again"
"Addiction can be hard, I struggled with alcohol after I finished my deployment but Wes set me straight" Elliot admitted.
"You two were army buddies?"
"We did two tours together and ended up here together" Elliot smiled.
"We're soulmates" Wesley teased "Now why do you have that sour look on your face. Don't think I forgot that you declined to answer that question" Nia rolled her eyes dramatically.
"My sister wants me to go to therapy"
"Why is that a bad thing?" Harper cut in "Sorry I wasn't eavesdropping, well I kind of was-"
"She wants me to go and talk about what happened to me, again"
"Therapy has been proven to help people who struggle mentally" Harper told her.
"I don't struggle mentally. Jade sticks herself with needles full of heroin, Leah fucks anyone who looks at her and Nora drinks, I'm the most stable out of all of them and yet they're telling me to go to therapy" She scoffed.
"Maybe after years of being their strong older sister they just want you to heal from old wounds that haunt you" As Harper said those words silence fell upon the squad room.
"Nothing haunts me" Nia muttered back.
"Is everything alright out here?" Nadia asked as she left her office and entered the squad room.
"Its fine" Nia assured her "Have we got a case?"
"Yes, six month old Lila was taken from her stroller whilst her mom picked out cereal" Harper didn't miss the way that Nia flinched slightly "Why are you all still sitting around? Let's go, the clock is running out"
