Nia blinked away the sleep from her eyes, rubbing them awake. They landed on his thick muscle of a chest and then his smile.
"Good morning. I was going to make breakfast but I didn't want to scare you by being gone when you woke up"
"I appreciate it" She murmured against his chest.
"Do you want to talk about last night?"
"Last night was great" She smiled up at him "I want it to happen again. I don't feel safe a lot but I did with you"
"I'm glad" He smiled, running his hand up and down her arm "We'll keep it professional at work until you're ready to disclose, that's if this gets that far" She nodded slightly.
"I want to. I want to try with you" She laughed lightly "Are we crazy?"
"Not at all. We connected and you told me your darkest secret, I think we're the opposite of crazy"
"We need to get ready for work" He nodded slightly.
"Can I have a kiss? Purely for motivational purposes of course" She laughed.
"Of course, we can't have you being unmotivated can we?" She laughed along with his joke before she dropped her lips to his. A knock on her apartment door was what broke them apart. Nia pulled away from him with a sigh, grabbing her sweats off the ground she pulled them on before she padded out into the living room and pulled on her turtleneck. She pulled open the door expecting to see Jade since Nora and Leah didn't tend to knock, but when she saw her parents and Caroline standing there she was anything but happy to see them.
"Hi sweetheart" Irene smiled at her daughter.
"What are you doing here?" She bit, wrapping her own arms around herself as she moved back inside, reluctantly letting them in.
"We're here for you sweetheart" Wyatt assured his daughter.
"I don't want any of you here" She bit.
"We love you Lavinia-"
"Don't call me that!" She shouted, her mother jerking back at the force of her daughters shout. Elliot appeared in the doorway to her bedroom, his shirt still unbuttoned.
"Everything okay out here?"
"It's fine, just-" She motioned for him to go back into her room, not trust her voice to not be laced with anger. He nodded and disappeared back into her room, shutting the door behind him.
"He seems nice" Irene smiled.
"I fucked him mother, I just about know his name" Nia shot back.
"You work with him" Caroline argued back.
"What do you want?" Nia repeated.
"We want to know our daughter" Irene told her.
"You want to know me? Knowing me was killing you mom! My nightmares were giving you your own! You were physically sick looking at the scars they left behind!" Nia watched tears fill her mothers eyes and drip down her cheeks "And you dad, I couldn't bare to be in the same room as you. You remembered your little girl who sat on your knee and listened to your stories but you reminded me of them, of the men that raped me" She watched her father fight back his tears "And you Caroline, a girl who I thought didn't need me because she was already older than I was when I was raped for the first time. I don't like being called Lavinia because that's what they called me, they liked the way it sounded. It sounded like silk, I felt like silk, I felt like silk when they forced their way between my legs" Nia bit.
"We want to know the woman that you are now" Wyatt spoke up.
"I'm broken and holding on because if I die my sisters die too, just like Lacie did and I can't take any more pain" Nia's voice cracked as her tears took over. Her phone rang out in her pocket and Nia wiped away her tears and cleared her throat before she pulled out her phone and answered "Hey sis" Nia began, earning a small scoff from Caroline.
"Nia, we have a problem"
"What's up Nora? Did Jade find a way out of rehab?"
"No. Its Joe. He wants to talk to us, to you"
"What does he really want?"
"He wants you to get him out of prison"
"In exchange for what?"
"In exchange for getting him out he'll tell you what happened to your babies" Nia felt her heart stop. She felt everything stop.
"They died a long time ago"
"But you'll know where they're buried at least. I think you should talk to him Nia, he trusted you"
"He didn't trust me. Joe just liked his plaything" Nia hung up the phone, her eyes meeting her parents sad ones.
"What does Jo-that man want from you now?" Irene bit somewhat, unable to hide her anger.
"He wants what every other man wanted from me, he wants me to give him what he wants" Caroline scoffed, Nia could tell that her anger was building.
"What Cara?" Nia bit.
"Why do you always choose them over me?" Nia laughed before her face fell serious once again.
"Because only they understand what I went through. Only they understand what it's like to have twenty men climb on top of you in one night. Didn't you ever consider that I might have been trying to protect you from my nightmares? Or that maybe I wanted to protect your childhood whilst you still had one"
"But I didn't!" Her sister's tone broke her heart "They were so busy looking for you and wallowing in the grief they forgot all about me" She cried, motioning towards their parents.
"But I didn't. I remembered how you smiled and laughed, I remembered all the good in the world and my world was you. When I thought about running away I thought about you, because they wouldn't have you like they had me. I wouldn't let them ruin you too. I wouldn't let them burn you or my other sisters with cigarettes or whip them. I protected you the only way I knew how" Nia's voice broke as Elliot re-entered the living room.
"We have to get to work soon" He announced.
"I need to get dressed" Nia muttered, her arms wrapping around herself again.
"We'll be here, when you're ready" Irene assured her before Wyatt wrapped an arm around her waist and led her towards the door.
"We love you sweetheart" He smiled before they left.
"I love you Nia" Caroline gave her a small smile before she followed after her parents, closing the door behind her.
"You okay?" Elliot asked, moving to her, he placed a hand on the small of her back.
"I'll survive, somehow I always do"
