𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆, bright and early, Ali, Claire, Jenny, Nate, and Kyle left Verona and began their search for Lorenzo. They knew it wouldn't be easy, but Ali was determined to help Claire find her happy ending.
Ali and Jenny looked out the window and realized just how breathtaking Verona really was. The meadows looked like something out of a painting they had only seen in the art museums in New York.
Ali wrote in her journal, while Jenny and Kyle would converse in the backseat. Nate would glance at Ali through the rearview mirror from time to time. He saw how focused she was in her writing, a smile forming on her lips when Jenny whispered something in her ear.
After driving for a while, the group made a stop to Siena, which was a grassy road side clearing. Clark sat cross-legged on a rock, Ali sat beside her, while Jenny and Kyle sat on the picnic table bench, and Nate sat on the table, facing the opposite direction.
"How much time did you actually spend with Lorenzo?" Ali asked.
"Oh, every second that we could. I'd go to meet him after class, to the farm where he was working." Claire pointed in the direction in which they were headed. "We'd sit under trees, sharing bread with tomatoes and olive oil."
"So romantic." Jenny smiled as Kyle and Ali smield as well.
Nate whipped his head around with a scowl on his face. "What's so romantic about eating in the dirt?"
"Oh the dirt, you see, he loved the earth. He loved talking to me about the rain, and the springs of fresh water...and we'd walk, for miles and miles. We'd lie in the dry grass..." Claire looked up towards the sky as she began to get lost in her thoughts. "I can still remember. The smell of his sweet, hot sweat, and-"
"Okay, okay, gran." Nate said and then pointed at his head. "We get the picture."
"So you must feel like you're about to find your long-lost soulmate." Kyle smiled.
Claire nodded. "Yes. Yes."
"Her soulmate was our grandfather, let's not invalidate our entire existence." Nate said as he stood up with a huff.
"That's not what I meant." Kyle said as Nate walked to the far side of the hill, looking out towards the horizon
"Excuse me ladies." Kyle said as he stood up and walked after Nate, and Jenny sat on the other side of Jordan.
"Ben's just like my husband. Both skeptics. My husband always insisted that love was nothing but hormones." Claire smiled slightly. "But you see, underneath, he had such a warm, passionate heart, and Nate's just the same."
Ali glanced at Nate, and couldn't imagine he was anything but the arrogant man she had met and known him to be. Jenny and Kyle went for a walk, leaving Ali and Claire alone.
