| Day 138 out of 3652 | Days left until Chris' hearing: 58 |
I was back in Atlanta.
This time, I had brought Krystal along for the trip. After everything, she deserved a little mini-vacation, and I knew it would be good for her. Tomorrow she was going to the aquarium with Dominic, Kevin, and his kids. I'd been nervous about how she'd get along with them, given her social anxiety, but to my relief, it seemed like things were going smoothly. Krystal had come such a long way, especially with her regular sessions with Dr. Moore.
As for me, I'd been thinking about picking up my therapy sessions again with Dr. Moore, too. She had been calling to schedule a visit, and I knew I needed it. Ever since Chris got locked up, I'd been all over the place emotionally. Now that I was finally finding some normality, it was time to go back to therapy, especially with how much crazier things were getting in my life.
Raelle and I were at the warehouse today for some target practice. She'd told me about the situation with her and a worker at the warehouse, and that had been the final push for me. If she was going to be part of this life, she needed to know how to protect herself, first and foremost. Raelle was a boss in her own right, so there's no question about that, but there's a difference between handling business and handling danger. And for that, she needed some serious training.
"Alright, let's start with 'Bad Boss Bitch Training 101,'" I joked, grinning at her. She laughed, but I knew she was feeling nervous. Raelle might be a boss, but having to handle a gun on a daily basis was new territory for her. She has had some training, but I wanted to ensure I refreshed her memory to make sure she was comfortable.
We started with the basics. I showed Raelle how to handle a handgun and how to take it apart and put it back together. Her movements were hesitant initially, but I could see her paying close attention. After a few run-throughs, she got the hang of it. Next, I set up some target practice with glass bottles and other random items we had lying around.
Raelle was shaking a little as she lined up her first shot. Her first few attempts missed completely, and I could see the frustration building up in her. But I wasn't worried.
"Okay, let's fix your stance a bit," I said, moving behind her and adjusting her arms and grip. "Keep your eyes locked on the target, breathe steady, and squeeze the trigger; don't pull it."
With a nod, she tried again. The first shot missed, but it was closer. Then, with a deep breath, she squeezed off another round, and this time, the bottle shattered. Raelle's eyes lit up in surprise, and I couldn't help but smile.
"OKAY SHOOTA!!!" I said, doing my little dance.
She took a few more shots, and each one got better. By the end of it, she had taken out a few bottles, and I could see her confidence growing.
