In just 78 minutes, 72,000 citizens were killed by beings unknown. From a bird's eye view scanned by a satellite above the atmosphere, a noticeable black dot with an increasing radius of 4 kilometers, was seen amongst the flashing, bright, colorful lights of Fukuoka city, taking a massive portion.
Government workers and political analysts alike worked hard--in hopes that the economy wouldn't suffer a major loss of funds due to the damages inflicted upon a major city.
57th street, Building, Musutafu...
A building panned into view, on the 37th floor of a massive structure built for the sole purpose of managing the country's economy, a majority of people were sat around an oval-shaped black table, while a presenter stood in front of them, pointing his hand at the wide-spread TV.
"No damage inflicted on the port--so boat-bound exports remain at a functional pace," An analyst stated matter-of-factly while holding a piece of paper for his script on his left, and his right presenting statistics on the screen. "No major damage inflicted on the airports--assuming every plane made available is prepped for flight, we have minimal to worry about." He added, flashing another statistic on screen with a flick of his wrist. "Exports and imports from the skies should still be in working order..."
Then there was an eerie silence. Every member within the round-wide table knew in every fiber of their being the situation in Jaku City.
"...Assuming...those things don't spread."
A government worker spoke up, propping both her hands on the table to quickly browse a copy of those statistics seamlessly flipping through the paperwork. "Moving on from exports, imports, and such, what of the damages in Jaku City?" She asked, her tone neutral, indifferent--business-like in a sense where she only cared for the country's economy.
"14.7 million in damages and counting," The analyst answered.
"..." The latter thought for a moment before mustering a response. "It's manageable. Japan won't feel much of an impact at this moment--merely a minor cave-in, I'd say."
Then another Government worker spoke up, jolting up from his seat. "Are we just going to ignore the fact thousands were killed in minutes?!" He shouted, his voice resounding the office. "Children were killed! Heroes sacrificed their lives too! Are we not going to do anything about it?!"
The woman's brows furrowed into a hardening glare. "I don't think you have much of a say in this, intern," she retorted, coldly. "Whether you like it or not, this is the job we--you signed up for. Citizen lives matter little, keep that in mind when you start working."
The man clenched his fists, inhaling to respond. "You monst--"
She scoffed, her eyes rolling and her head jerked back with a groan. "Oh, please."
His teeth ground in suppressed rage. "You seriously don't care about them? That event happened within the perimeters of an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!" He raised his voice, obviously frustrated that children were in the picture. "Don't--" His voice cracked. He sighed shakily before continuing. "Don't you care for the lives of our people? Our children?!"
There was a long abrupt pause, the woman having both hands clasped on her lips with a deep, fixed frown. "Then be a hero."
He lost his breath. "...What?"
